Modded (supposedly) Wii troubles

Right heres the story - i bought a supposedly pre-modded wii, from a not too well known place. It was supposed to have the d2pro 9 wire chip in it. I wanted to confirm that the chip was there and working so...

I tried a back up game on it, but that wasn't recognized - although i'm not entirely sure that I did it right and that I was using the right type of disc...

So I downloaded the d2pro 9 wire config disc from the website and put it in my console - it was recognized, on the main menu screen it showed a gamecube logo as supposed to - but when i ran it - it told me that there was NO d2pro chip that it could find...

So as of yet i dont actually know if the modchip is there! There is also a silver seal on the bottom of the console, this appears untouched, it has some letters and numbers on. Is this put on by nintendo? If not then i can assume that its been put on by the people who sold it me and that it is indeed modded...

Does anybody have any ideas what i can do check - eg is there a disc or code or something i can enter that will tell me if there is a chip there and if so what chip it is?

Many thanks

The fact that the GC logo showed up in the disc channel and ran on a burnt disc prooves that it is modded.

But what chip it has is going to be diffulcult to find out. btw the seal is not disturbed when the wii is dismantled, so thats normal.

Many thanks, i thought that might indicate that it was modded, just wanted confirmation :)

Guess I have a couple of options now, I could either buy the screwdriver and undo it and look....or burn lots of different config discs until i get the right one! Have also emailed the company so am awaiting their reply...

Cheers :)

do you think if they by any chance have given you a d2Cpro by mistake perhaps? people do get them mixed up sometimes, since their names are similar.

yeh i believe it's definitely easier to just open it up and check the chip physically.

Thanks, didn't realise there was a d2cpro chip aswell.

Think I'll buy the screwdriver and have a look!

what is your current WII firmware at?
if you have updated to 3.3 then certain backups like smash bros and mario kart will not boot as nintendo have updated with some anti modchip measures eg the trucha signed games will not load and the homebrew channel is uninstalled. freeloader the multi region disc also stopped working
There is a work around which is to use the Twilight princess hack and install the new homebrew channel version 8 then run Gecko OS from the Homebrew channel which will then boot the problem games that are trucha signed by nintendo
Original twilight game or back up will load by d2pro
involves using a memory card with twilight princess hack, homebrew channel installer and Gecko OS all on card

Sorry to intrude OP, but hopefully my question is also relevant and will also help with your case.

I have a regular Wii and a modded PAL console with Wiikey. Have an original disc of SMG that we use in the reg Wii. Made a backup copy but it's not working in the modded Wii. Just get a bank screen and then an error message later when I try another disc (but that was resolved after resetting). Haven't tried the original disc in the modded either as I've heard rumours of the update messing with the Wiikey. Wiikey is 1.9g from memory (I updated it by disc) and configured it not to block updates (maybe they should be off?). Can't remember my Wii firmware version. Had it a few months and not took it online at all.

Any suggestions re what versions of firmaware I should be running and what settings I should keep it on? I want to make sure things are right before I try either disc again as I thought I had bricked the Wii when I tried it!
