Always preferable to focus on positive and attractive images, but there are times where a picture can generate that Aarrgh!! emotion. Anyone can post whatever they like of course, but hoping that no one feels the need to make political points with horrendous images of Syria, drowning migrants, or other scenes of human tragedy around the world. Such images are terrible, but we all know the horrific nature of them, but this thread is intended to be light with an image and a short caption of why it rattles your cage.

I'm not going to post the vile pics available, but this whole subject does more than annoy me. It's outrageous.

Why? Why!! Why do the local children all need to wear high-visibility jackets to accompany the '401 Marathon Man' for the last few metres of his great achievement?

The gripe is not particularly the subject of the photograph, but why a device to hold a mobile telephone in this manner is needed.

Just ask somebody else to take the photograph for you, or set a timer on the camera.

Doesn't irk or annoy me, but the propensity for middle-aged men to get bent out of shape over the smallest thing does always make me laugh.

There are pills to help you guys now (anti-depressants obviously). ;)

There isn't always someone around to hold the camera, especially if you want a group photo involving everyone. Also not everyone has a friend who can hold a camera 2-3 feet away at an elevated angle.

Where I do find it puzzling is when someone is at a football match surrounded by 40,000 people and still use them. Just ask someone politely and you might make a friend for life.

Perhaps focus on their smiles and the amazing achievement of the athlete. Your comment makes me sigh, you've missed the point of the photo.

I'd love to appreciate the achievement of a man completing an amazing feat for charity and the happy smiling faces of children joining in....

but they're wearing high-vis jackets. The whole thing is ruined!! X)

Anyway, this thread will probably go something like this

You have entirely missed the point, but of course you know that. I am delighted to see the children involved, being made to wear HVJ's and spoil an otherwise rather wonderful image for the amazing runner is the issue. No need to make an issue where it doesn't exist, dave'.

I don't have a photo of the offending article as I was driving but I'll describe the scenario . Back in the day when a bus was not in service it displayed a sign saying not in service . Clear , concise and to the point . A few years ago this changed to sorry not in service . Not a big deal . More recently I've seen sorry I'm not in service which I object to because it's a bus . It isn't capable of emotion . The final straw was when that message was accompanied by a sad face emoticon . It's a bus for Pete's sake . It doesn't care !

no - the point is that the kids are loving running with the athlete and are probably excited to wear the jackets, as well as the obvious point that the athlete has reached an amazing goal - you really have missed the various points of this photo, imo.

Please tell me how the HVJ's enhance the photo. I think it detracts from the image. The runner will only finish his 401st Marathon once, and this is the image captured forever. Personally, I think it would have been a far better if he was able to treasure the image in future years with the lovely children, but minus the rather unnecessary HVJ's. I hope you are not just seeking a ding-dong for the sake of it? This is a thread for people to post modern images that irk them, not for straw man points to be made about said images.

401 marathons in 401 days, recovering from a hernia 284 days through, all with the aim of raising £250,000 for two great charities - Stonewall and Kidscape.

We've come so far in society, but people still deem it necessary to express reverence and adoration towards someone because of their birthright.

These full stop! Well done you have managed to breed! People who are behind you will not drive any differently because they see this, and if it is to inform in the event of a crash, its pretty likely not going to be on the window anymore.

Just ask somebody else to take the photograph for you, or set a timer on the camera.
HotEnglishAndWelshDeals
There isn't always someone around to hold the camera, especially if you want a group photo involving everyone. Also not everyone has a friend who can hold a camera 2-3 feet away at an elevated angle.

Please see my previous comment.

Where I do find it puzzling is when someone is at a football match surrounded by 40,000 people and still use them. Just ask someone politely and you might make a friend for life.

I did. Sometimes there's not someone available to hold it, and even if you set a timer then there's the issue of having the phone levitate 4-7 feet off of the ground (there's not always something to balance or rest it on).

I wouldn't worry, fp. The mention of "not everyone has a friend" and "make a friend for life" is merely a nasty dig at someone not in this thread (yet). Predictable stuff.
