Cant get into site at moment.

They had a Denial of Service attack a few weeks back - one can only assumme that the same scumbags are mounting another attack on their website.
#3
Can I come and hide here with you?

I remember you from either 'House buying, selling...' etc

Your not missing much, lots of trolls, fights and threats flying round MSE all weekend.
#6
Yes - I know you too, Saint!

Is anyone else on here? I know last time there was an "MSE Refugee Camp" somewhere but I can't remember where :-)

Firstly, are we friends' or foes'?

Or is it okay to have a separate relationship on here, exclusive to M.S.E?

The camp was removed by the the bureaucrats in Brussels. :)

Oh, I didn't know we could be foes :? Don't you like me now? :-(

At least I came to the right place, then! Are relationships against the rules?

Did I ever like you?

If you have a dislike of Property ladder(Channel 4 on [email protected], Channel 4+1 [email protected], and More4 on [email protected]) and/or Sarah Beeny, then we are definitely mortal enemies.

I'm here, but under a different name.......!!

Still not online.
#15
If i were paranoid, I'd suggest both HUKD having problems and MSE recent downtime just weeks before the most important month for a huge percentage of companies who want to milk customers for every penny is a bit suspicious :)
#16
Perhaps HUKD has more users online. I visited here everyday couple of times but dont post every day perhaps theres more msers on tonight it took me ages to get the voucher page to load up
#17
Every year in Oct/Nov/Dec, HUKD/MSE will become more popular because of xmas sales etc.

£40billion predicted to be spent online in the UK this xmas.

Sorry folks, we're trying to sort out where a lot of old posts have gone and we're doing some repair work on the database.

We're working as quickly as we can, please bear with us.

Perhaps if Martin didn't spend so much time saving money, he would get some competent web staff to run his site. Penny wise, pound foolish.

oh no not again - I know the last one was an attack on the site but whats happened this time?

Am trying to stay on top of the competitions lol! :whistling:
#23
It's properly deaded.

I had a really important question no-one had time to answer. Don't really know this lot well enough yet (no offence, guys!); it was a bit sensitivey/relationshippy.

Incompetence/poor website management by the look of things. 'Missing' posts. Usually due to inadequate/no testing before working on live system in my experience.

I agree. It's starting to look less like there was ever a DDoS attack, and more like that was just an excuse as they couldn't handle the load there. The recurring issues have shown the incompetence and/or lack of resources that are with MSE.

Unfortunately, I don't know of a good enough total replacement site?

Its up again:roll:

Not quite.

It's up, but they're still missing half the bloody forum.

All the people who have painstakingly pieced together 'slow cooker recipe' threads stretching over several dozen pages find their work all gone.

The 'debt-free support' threads where people pour their heart out about their addiction to spending other people's money, gone.

Martins two single post stickies are missing all content;

This Board Is For Help Not Judgement and Welcome To The Bankruptcy Board

Obviously we understand that with a hardware failure and possible db corruption we may never get some things back. But the efforts of the admin/techie team are appreciated.

Obviously there really is no excuse or reason for things to be lost permanently, they should be able to roll back one day and restore everything.

The reason for the problem is:

"catastrophic hardware failure on the Forum server", "the whole thing had to be rebuilt"

God knows why they have no failover box.

Suspect things have been done on the cheap.....

I get that feeling too. It's all very well bragging how little the original site cost to set up but now it's in the position it enjoys........there is no excuse.

Explains why we are getting more traffic then :whistling:

Not sure who you mean by we, I assume HUKD, for clarity, as should be obvious from the link, it is MSE that is shafted.

If you mean MSE by 'we', then the reason it gets more traffic it is because Martin Lewis is always pimping himself on TV.
#32
They appear to have lost every post before 29th June
#33
The problem was the fault of a third party agency, who haven't done their job properly and have let their client down big time! They are attempting to restore old threads by going through backup files, but it turns out the agency wasn't keeping these properly either.

I expect they'll be sacked / replaced and expect to recompense for any remaining loss. But it's not the fault of the internal team who put their faith in a professional (and expensive!) agency.

There's no rivalry, though, is there? I thought the two subjects of MSE and HUKD were similar enough to be able to share with one another :-)
#34
Hi Badger_Lady,

I've come here to seek solace. 'Brodders' has dared to slag off 'Queen Been'. :x

Such acts make me want to leave this country, it shouldn't be allowed.:-(
#35
Well, she was looking a bit droopy last night TBH, but we love her anyway!
#36
Not droopy, sultry. :)

Hmm, not sure I agree.

It is Martin Lewis' business. He owns a multimillion pound website, and should have disaster recovery strategy. This kind of thing is totally 100% predictable, and a well-managed busienss would have plans and testing in place. He is the Director, it is his livelihood.

I'll take back my previous comments based on : http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?p=6798632#post6798632

An incremental back-up however does have a starting point (i.e. a full back-up) so not sure what they are on about there. I bet he's been livid.

We as in HUKD, cos I am only a member of this site and not the other :p this site does me fine, a place to post and browse deals, a place to chill out in the misc section, the recently added pub where you can spend some of that money you saved on those great deals and of course our site is the only site that allows smoking in any part of it as well, without annoying other members :giggle: something I don't think MSE can boast about :giggle: (if it can boast about anything at the moment :whistling: )
#40
Oh NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! It's gone again.

I agree - I also work as a manager in eCommerce for a very large organisation, and our websites are used by millions of people in the UK, but I reserve judgement - accidents can happen despite live Disaster Recovery (though the risk is supposedly negligible), particularly if you're dependent on third parties.
