They only put their prices up a couple of months ago and now they are going up again. Been a loyal customer for years but even I am seriously considering moving on.

yeah i got the letter yesterday and wasnt impressed tbh only just downgraded my package as it was getting expensive and no price increases were mentioned to me then and was only a couple of weeks ago !
#3
I got this too. Can I complain because when I signed up this wasn't the price.
#4
Mmmmm not sure . I am thinking of going to Sky now .... my friend works there and they are doing some friends and family offer.

not sure tbh but surely a contract works both ways and them increasing prices breaks the terms of any agreed contract.

post #55 suggests you can cancel

T&Cs - you can CANCEL within 30 days of receiving the letter

If,

Virgin Media Ltd, Virgin Media Entertainment and/or Virgin Media Payments increase their respective charges under these agreements ;

Virgin Media Ltd and/or Virgin Media Entertainment make significant changes to the services so the services you are entitled to receive in return for the charges you pay are significantly altered or reduced; or

Virgin Media Ltd, Virgin Media Entertainment and/or Virgin Media Payments make significant changes to the terms and conditions of these agreements (including the other legal stuff ),you may cancel those services affected without penalty by giving Virgin Media Ltd and/or Virgin Media Entertainment (as applicable) at least 30 days' notice in writing.

If you cancel any services in these circumstances, the increased charges will not apply to those services during the 30-day notice period and paragraph J3 will not apply if you cancel before the end of the minimum period . If you do not give such notice of cancellation within 30 days of any increase in charges or changes to the services or this agreement being notified to you or, if later, receipt of your first bill following such increase in charges, Virgin Media, Virgin Media Entertainment (if applicable) and Virgin Media Payments will assume that you have accepted the increase in charges and the changes to the services and these agreements and you will no longer be able to cancel your services under this paragraph.

Do you think if I rang up to cancel they might put the price down? My Mam done that with o2 yesterday for her broadband and they done that. Don't really want to leave Virgin as you can record 2 things at a time lol.

can someone sum up the exact increases

err, look at post 1!
#11
They won't reduce as they are still cheaper than Sky so its them or pay Sky prices!
They basically have you by the short and curlies.
#12
i just cancelled my services

i suggest everyone do same

otherwise expect further price increases in another few months

bloody disgrace

BB / phone line is much cheaper elsewhere so gonna investigate

freeview shows more than enough TV for me (using humax PVR).

i cancelled my tv/phone package last time round when they put up the prices

I think there is a degree of overreaction about this.

Prices as a whole have gone up recently for most things, where this is different is that these are "luxury" items - there is no urgent need to have broadband but people choose to.

I feel that I get good bang for my buck with Virgin Media and can stomach the rise as I have had a upgrade to 30Mb broadband recently.

20% rise in just over 4 months is hardly an over-reaction. The 'luxury' argument is irrelevant.

I was paying £15.99 for 10mb BB and phone line and talk weekends just over a year ago. This latest round of increases will put it up to £22 which is a 38% increase in 1 year!

I wont even go there with the extortionate call charges (my PAYG mobile is cheaper than phoning someone local on my landline!).

Thats totally irrelivant. Just tell them you are stretching yourslef as it is and the increase means you can no longer afford and will take the free option of Freesat instead. You could have course ask the CS rep if they'd like to pay for the price hike instead!

who with? capped BB usage?

think I'm finally gonna make the jump to sky

increased VM price for 10mb BB / line rental / talk weekends will be £22.50

SKY =
20MB Unlimited BB
Line rental and includes free line installation
talk weekends AND talk evenings
SKY+ TV and Knowledge entertainment pack

Total monthly cost £38.25
Total one-off cost £10
M&S Voucher = £25
Topcashback = £65

so total for 12 months is £31.50 pcm so just £9 more for Sky+ TV, talk evenings, double BB speed and unlimted usage

So

My total price has increased by less than £2 per month in that last 2 years (except for the VAT increase)

I suppose it depends what service levels you were on and what discounts you were able to arrange with them. I am on XL TV, Broadband and Phone with V+ and a 2nd box in the bedroom.

so how much do you pay per month (I would expect around £45-£50 per month for that lot)
#25
I think you can only cancel if the price has increased by X% over a set period. would love to hear from anyone who has VM, as both Grandad and Mum have it

Didnt it just go up in Oct/Nov?

Its more than that - its about 65 all in.

It is essentially their VIP package minus Sky Sports and Sky Movies.

no wonder yours has only gone up £2 then as you are paying top whack. Should be much cheaper than that. Guess you havent ever tried to get the price down (a must for ALL vm customers).

I should be paying 75 a month according the bundle builder. I have brokered a tenner off per month.

like i said im on a deal for the same as you have and mine is only £45 PM

i'm thinking of going to sky too
Currently paying £22 for Talk unlimited and 10mb BB (will be £23.50 from April)
With sky can get 20mb BB (well will be able 10 in reality) and same phone package for £23.75
But £50 cashback and no traffic management
Even without the cashback its only 25p a month more which I'm more than happy to pay for the extra BB service.

Anyone else doing decent line rental\BB packages?

I have never heard anyone getting a 35% discount after the initial 6 month period. Even VM employees pay more than this! Well done to you!

My Sky HD package has just gone up and currently £26 per month for ALL sport and movies and includes no HD surcharge. Telephone is £12pm and Bethere BB is £10pm for a 16Mb connection and No throttleing or caps.

I'll be dropping Sky as soon as my halp price deal expires and use the dreambox route for £8 a month instead.X)

Mine too, increase only works out £1.50. I will see what hubby says when he gets in, don't think he is too happy with them at the mo so this will be icing on the cake!

what you should be paying and the reality of what you can get are a distance apart. £45 per month is about right for your bundle (as two others have backed up)
#38
I got broadband free for about 3 years, so I can handle a price increase of £9 rer annun.

Icing on the cake [= good]
Straw that broke the camels back [=bad]

So are you saying the increase is good?

You're right I should have said "last straw", I used the incorrect idiom, my bad :(
