Morrisons supermarket has halved the number of points you get when filling up at its petrol stations.

At the moment, if you have a More rewards card you get 10 points for every litre you buy.

But from May 1 you’ll only get 5
.

Previously, you got a £5 voucher for every 500 litres of fuel you bought, now you’ll need 1,000 litres to earn your voucher - meaning the discount is worth just 0.5p a litre.

That makes filling up actually earn you fewer points than your shopping will per pound in store.

Morrisons claim the cut is to provide lower prices for all customers at the pump. Let's hope we see falling prices at the pump soon.

I've never known a marketing team to say "the cut is so that everyone gets less value for money, ensuring that we maximise profits trying to survive in the market"

Very true, Cost cutting usually means increased profits to a marketing bod. Its all how you spin it out.

It is a tricky one, both my local morrisons and Tesco are with in 2 miles of each other, morrisons fuel is 1p cheaper so I normally use morrisons, now with Mcard you only will get 0.5p back and with Tesco you still get 1p back, which can be maxed out at 4p. Will probably switch to Tesco now.

Thanks OP for the heads up. I got a letter with details but wasn't sure if it had gone up or down. Will not bother filling up in Morrisons anymore.

Are you sure about that. Next time you fill so check the receipt as I get 15 points for £30 worth of fuel. Infact if I manage to fill to 29.98 then I get 14 Tesco club card points.
