On the business news this morning. Morrisons will be lowering their prices by 2p and a supermarket price war is expected......so if you are going to fill up - you might want to wait a couple of days.

What are they lowering it from? My local Shell station (Bolton) is selling un-leaded at 108.9 a litre and that beats all of the local supermarkets by at least 1p.

Morrisons and most other supermarkets vary their forecourt prices to be the same or a 1p less than nearby garages. I don't think they have a standard price across all forecourts. This means they can charge the maximum they can get away with but still be amongst the cheapest in that town/area. Thats the sneaky thing that all supermarkets do - Tescos do the same. Prices in York are always 2p cheaper than my local Tesco.

Don't get me wrong I know it's good news but it just goes to
show you how much these places have you by the short and curlies
when we celebrate a 2p a litre drop in price for something that is overpriced
by at least 25p a litre...............

I agree with you which is why I posted this in Misc instead of in the deals section (like others have done previously)

If anyone wants confirmation it was on Radio 4s Today programme in the business section about 7.20am - you can use the Listen Again feature to hear it.

Apologies to Asda

Tesco and Morrisons vary their prices so I assumed it was standard practice.....

Yes Tesco's are really bad at having different prices at different stores. The Borehmawood Tesco is always around 3 or 4p a litre more expensive than the Jet and Bp garages in Park Street (which is 10 miles away and where I live). My friend always waits and fills up here when she visits me. This is all because there isn't another supermarket in the area.

Then the Tesco in Watford is always at least 1p cheaper than my local garages (10 miles from the Borehamwood one). You should see the queues to fill up there. I refuse to queue even when there is a 5p off voucher .
But there are a number of large supermarkets in Watford. Surely Tesco buy all their fuel at the same price. (ok there may be additional costs in transporting it to outlying stores but not 5p a litre for less than 10 miles!)
