Morrissey Hit by Bottle at Liverpool Concert

Just been to see Morrissey at the Liverpool Echo Arena (first time I have been to see him).

Came on at 9pm, sang Charming Man, got half way through Black Cloud and was hit on the head by a full bottle of beer. He was bending down at the time shaking hands with people, he stood up, said goodbye and walked off.

Left the lights off for a while, steward went on stage and was shining a light into the standing area being directed to who it was so the stewards on the floor could get him. Hope they did, but they didnt say. Hope the other fans got him first! Think they were hoping he would come back on, left it about 15-20minutes and then someone come on stage and said he had been hit by a bottle of beer and would not be coming back on and the lights were put on

Dont think there was one person in the arena who blamed him for not returning. I certainly dont! I wouldn't of blamed him if it hadnt hit him and he didnt return, but it hit the side of his forehead and wasnt thrown from far so was full force. Was only 2 weeks ago the man collapsed on stage!!!!

Before anyone says it, it was not necessarily someone from Liverpool (my brother came from essex to see him!) but I am ashamed that it had to be Liverpool where it happened.

Is he offering all the decent genuine fans refunds on their tickets? I would be asking for one.....I was only thinking the other day (at a pink concert) that it would only take one idiot to ruin crowd/performer interaction for everyone.

hes known for walking off

He collapsed on stage 2 weeks ago, is back performing and has rescheduled that concert.

Even if you dont like him, he didnt deserve to be hit with a full glass bottle!

Dunno, only happened an hour ago. Dont think its up to him to refund though, is Echo Arenas fault for selling glass bottles and alcohol. They gave some drinks out in plastic cups, so why not all? I will be chasing them for a refund and also asking them to refund my brothers train tickets (from essex).

Also, I bought a plastic bottle of tango in there and they took the lid off for health and safety reasons! Said I couldnt have the lids, ended up spilling some of it! Surely it is more dangerous to give someone a glass bottle than it is a plastic bottle lid!

well apparently hes not rescheduling

I've been to the Echo arena three times, and each time the amount of p**s heads causing problems was beyond belief. Admittedly it's never affected the performers but i've been burnt by a fag, been covered in booze and the gigs I have been to are not for groups you would think would attract these idiots.

Why do these people pay good money for the tickets and then do things like throw bottles & also get totally wasted so they can't even stand up.

I'm afraid it doesn't put the people of Liverpool in a good light.

Dont blame him, I wouldnt either.

I am expecting Echo Arena to put people off for a bit while they try to get him to reschedule because they are going to lose so much £, but I cant see it happening.

Where you hear that?

I dont understand why someone would spend so much to go and see him, obviously got there really early because they were maximum about 4 rows back in standing area, just to go and do that!

I agree it doesnt put Liverpool in a good light, but it wasnt necessarily someone from Liverpool.

I was'nt saying it was someone from Liverpool, but as it has happened in Liverpool, this is what puts it in a bad light. If it was Leeds, I would say the same thing.

This could be interesting!!

Just spoke to a mate who was also there who said there was a lot of bottles flying around! but in fact not one bottle actually hit Morrissey! Some bottles were close to him, then he just upped and said " Goodnight" and walked off.

My mate who is a fellow mancunian and a massive Morrissey fan said he was absolutely disgusted with Morrissey! He said it was if it was staged, as he said goodnight, the rest of the band walked off as if they knew what was going to happen!

Echo arena sells drinks in plastic only so there was no glass being throw, not even a J2O bottle.

I for one am a mancunian but not a morrissey fan so it makes no odds to me,

Just thought i would share!

Definitely hit him, although seen a few people saying it didnt.

There was another drink thrown during the first song that I noticed as it was near stage, that was over the other side and just appeared to be liquid rather than container.

The person who threw it was so close, and Morrissey was bent down at front of stage at the time, seemed (nobody other than the person who threw it could say for sure) aimed.

There is a picture circling at the moment of the person who supposedly did it, and the person who posted it (and has been backed by other people) was VERY close to him, is saying the person was unanimously identified and the stewards did take him away. Is also saying that he WAS hit.

Cant see Morrissey going to all that effort to stage a walk-out, could of said it was something to do with collapsing 2 weeks ago if he wanted to cancel. Band seemed to slow down to judge his reaction and it was when he said goodbye that they stopped completely and walked off. That is what I would expect them to do, until they know whether or not he will be returning. The singer walking off could lead to anger and other items being thrown at them (although people only seemed annoyed at the person who threw the drink at this time). His band members will also of been concerned as to whether he was actually injured, they spend a lot of time with Morrissey.

happened to me twice at gigs...

Oasis walked off in 97 at SECC and then Kasabian in 2005 at Carling Academy both due to bottle throwing!!!
#21
Been to well over 100 gigs in my time and drink/bottle throwing happens all the time. Don't see the logic in it myself. Firstly you've paid for your drink so why waste it, and secondly, you've paid for your ticket so why run the risk of peeing them off?

As I've seen it's not drink that's in the bottles, it's what comes out the other end :?

50 Cent didn't walk off after getting bottles thrown at him at Leeds, him and his posse started throwing them back
#23
Yeah, i've known that to happen a few times.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8tLUI7IGb38<- video of it happening

That shows that it definitely hit him - it bounces off his head!

I also still say it was a bottle, if you look at the shape and also at the way the liquid leaves whatever it is, if it was a cup then the liquid would of left in a greater volume/at greater speed because the opening is a lot larger.
#25
Can't blame him one bit, he's gone on stage to entertain people not to suffer GBH

Feel very sorry for the 99% of fans that missed out on what would have been a cracking concert
banned#26
It's not the best thing that could happen, but if the lead singer of Panic at the Disco can get up and carry on after being 'felled' by a bottle then surely this 'icon' perhaps could've manned up?

But I suppose it's better than selling insurance or butter when you're no longer relevant:whistling:

I must've missed the pools of blood and ambulance personnel rushing on stage to stem the flow from the wound:roll:
#28
I doubt it was glass, the bottles they sells at gigs like j20 and bud etc are made to look like glass, same shape and all but are actually plasitc. if it was glass it would have knocked him out, at the speed it was thrown

the bottles they sell in the echo are plastic but exactly the same shape as a bottle, having watched that clip i think it's pretty pathetic that he's gone off and stayed off for that, typical morrisey

Agreed! I took my post down as i read a few other forums which stated a bottle of some sort hit him,. Think my mate was probably tying his shoe laces at the time.

It is all over the news on BBC Merseyside this morning...

I have just watched the clip....

How sad that he walked off...

Poor gimp...

If he is going to walk off for that the thrower should of made sure it was made of good old solid glass..

This is at a concert.. I am not saying it was right, but to walk off like he did...

Pussy, I feel sorry for the real fans...
#36
I remember Reading Festival... a while ago.. quite foolishly Daphne and Celeste wormed their way onto the lineup.. ive never seen so many bottles in the air... someone even threw their wheelchair... and they didnt want to leave, had to be dragged off the stage... the last think i heard was ' why dont you like us?!'
#37
Perhaps he feared it wasn't drink that the bottle was full of if you know what I mean.

You have to be a right moron to do something like that don't you?

Personally don't blame him, would have been great if the youtube video was the perpetrator(sp) getting a good beating.

Don't forget that this a man who two weeks ago was rushed to hospital after collapsing on stage. He's well within his rights to leave if he is being assaulted.

Maybe if somebody made vegetarian wire he may have considered using it.
