MOT/Car Tax issues

Bit of info here guys if you will... Muggins here forgot that my MOT expires 31/3 (tomorrow). Tax also expires 31/3 (tomorrow).

I've just gone to renew my tax online (at this point not knowing that MOT runs out) and i get this message:

"Sorry, it has not been possible to match the vehicle with a MOT Test Certificate at this time and you are unable to complete your application for a tax disc using this service.

If you have a MOT Test Certificate…
It appears the vehicle has not yet been updated on the MOT Test Certificate database. You can phone the MOT helpline for information (with permission of the car owner). The telephone number is 0870 606 0440.

If you DON’T have a valid MOT Test Certificate…
A MOT Test Certificate must be obtained before applying for a tax disc."

Now my car has a valid MOT certificate (which i have here with me). Could i take that into my PO tomorrow and get issued a Tax disc? (as it says they make an electronic check.. which of course wont work)

It will be booked in for an MOT tomorrow.

can anyone lay some knowledge on me?

When you say 'valid MOT certificate' is it the one that expires on the 31st?

If so, I don't think that's valid to cover you tax for a year.

Because your MOT will be invalid when the Tax is due to start (1st April) then you will have to have a new MOT certificate, even if going into the Post Office.

And if you drive with no MOT plod has in car camera's that tell them and they'll give you a producer.
My daughter got caught on the way to post office to get her MOT. It's quick way for an officer to fill his quota...

indeed, you may drive to an mot appointment, but you will need to bus it/walk it to get a tax disc :)

Ok, look its been a long day. I'll go now and not bother you all again. . .

I guess Steve probably meant going to the Post Office to get the tax, not the MOT.

PS - Do it online it's much easier and is valid straight away as it will update the DVLA's system the minute you buy it.

Should have done the MOT way earlier, they can post-date the start so you don't lose any days.

We very nearly made the same mistake. So we bit the bullet and took the hit for the slightly more expensive 6 month tax, so a) the insurance and tax didn't run out together, and b) it spread the possibility of 2 financial hits at the same time.

are you really as stupid as you come across or did you fail to impress the missus this morning? My money is on both! :)

Just in case I need to spell it out. OP gets 6 months now; then 12 months thereafter. Didnt think I'd need to spell it out but seems I do for the idiots :)

Guess I'm not the only clown here lol
