Hello,
Im wanting to upgrade my pc with an intel Q6600 quad core and was wanting to know if there are any good Motherboards with a HDMI output and also an optical output for connecting to my dolby digital receiver? Im also looking for 3 pci slots if possible as most of the models ive seen only have the 2 pci along with the pci express slot, I have a budget of £100 for the motherboard but cant go any more than thais. Also can someone recommend a good heatsink for the quad core as im thinking about overclocking it.
Thanks in advance.

hi, your motherboard isn't the thing that would have hdmi thats really for the graphics card. Many motherboards have coax audio, but it can be a pain to find a reasonable board with optical sometimes. Most either too expensive, or too cheap. Go for a phenomII instead and that will help you stay within your budget :)

Hi,I was considering this board
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/139780/show_product_overview
but it only has the 2 standard pci slots but has hdmi and optical also. Im considering going for the amd as it is cheaper than the intel cpus but im put off with the clock speed of the amd cpu's as in the past they run slower than the stated speed i.e I bought a amd 2.8ghz athlon a few years back and the clock speed was only 1.8 so im not too sure if they run at the speed they are sold as i.e a 3ghz will have a clock speed of 3ghz. I have a radeon 4670 graphics card at the moment but for the last 4 weeks ive been pulling my hair out trying to get audio through the hdmi.I bought the gfx card from novotech but theyve ran out of ideas and now im stuck with it, it is a good card but my main reason for buying it was to play back blu ray movies through it onto my plasma so have now decided to try and get a mobo with a hdmi on the offchance that I will get more joy from that and the optical output is a back up incase the hdmi on the mobo doesnt work. This is my dilema.
Thanks

im confused why you 2.8Ghz athlon would only run at 1.8Ghz..unless it was an athlon 2800....they did confuse things a little with the naming of their processors in the past. All the AMD i have had have run at the speeds they stated so i think it may be the naming thing that caught you out?

The Phenom II is supposed to be very good, and one of the best overclockers going. The cost of a phenomII setup will likely be apporx 10-20% lower than equivalent Intel.

With regards to your graphics card, 2 things. 1. does it support audio through HDMI? 2. If it does then your problem is probably you haven't connected the cable between the header on your motherboard and the header on your graphics card that transmits the audio. That would be my best guess anyway. Definately take a look at that before you go spending any cash!

Hope it helps somewhat :)

Hi
The gfx card has onboard sound and doesnt need to be connected to the mobo, ive been googling the problem and a lot of people have been having the same problem, Ive been emailing novotech and they say it doesnt need to be connected to a sound card or mobo audio header its something to do with the audio driver but the hotfix from microsoft also didnt do any good so im sending it back to get tested. I also tried updating my bios as this might have something to do with it but asrock are hopeless with with replies to mobo queries and have told me to contact my dealer whom I purchased it from who in turn tells me to contact asrock,it seems that shifting the blame onto another party is now the way companies do thier thing so i wont be buying an asrock board again. Anyways cheers for the advice bud im now going to look into the amd cpu.
Thanks
