Move Itunes

SOSAGESSOSAGES

Hi All,

Looking to help a friend out this weekend and do a clean install of windows 7 for them (they currently have windows vista) have backed up emails and personal documents to external source so i can format and do a clean install of Win7.

My mate has 30 or so GB of ripped and paid for iTunes content that he wants to keep and move to the new install of windows.

I see iTunes has a "Backup" feature but that seems to back it up to a USB drive and seems to be used to restore on the PC you make the backup from. It does not seem to be designed for moving iTunes between different installs of operating systems.

I was wondering if anyone had any hints/tips on how to do this?

thanks in advance

cant you just copy the whole itunes folder to an external drive, and simply put it back after you reinstall?

so it wont get upset and keep all the meta data and all the files in one place?

    so my process would be.
    find itunes library
    copy to USB drive
    format and install windows 7
    install itunes
    copy library back

I'm surprised apple make it that easy...will i have to de-authurise itunes before formatting the pc?

i did do a search and found many sites but all were about backing it up and restoring it to the same OS install my issue is a little different.
    cheers for the help
