Looking for some advice! My daughter has mentioned an ipod for christmas. At the risk of sounding tight, I don't want to get an actual ipod, as shes only 9 and doesn't know the difference! I've found some lookalike mp4 players on ebay for less than £15, are they worth it? Shes only going to be listening / watching it in the car really.
Also, is there anywhere I can download music videos from, or possibly episodes of various programmes? (think Hannah Montana, Wizards of Waverly Place, H20 etc!)
Thanks for any advice!

Hi, I wouldn`t risk it, i have bought off ebay 1GB ipod types and they have not been good quality, the usb connectors usually go pretty quick, my brother bought an 8GB and it worked for a while and then "lost" 7 gb of its memory, why not buy her a sony or philips GO GEAR, Got both of those for kids and they work just great, or maybe get an ipod shuffle as they are pretty cheap, better to get quality where kids are concerned as they take a bashhing and you always get a guarantee with uk bought stuff, buy from china, you basically givin your dosh away
#2
I thought about a shuffle, but I like the idea of a screen for her to watch too.

I bought my son the 16GB reduced from £140 to £60 and think that plays videos. I honestly am not sure as rubbish with stuff like this and I have put it away for his Christmas!
#11
csiman I appreciate that everyone feels the cheap ones are rubbish, which is why I asked (the one on ebay is from a UK seller btw, not China), but its not for her main present, and I can't afford to spend a lot, hence not being able to afford £40
#12
Despite it being a UK seller, it will still be a Chinese product, I use to sell them and got plenty lying around my house! Example, I've got a Onda VX858 which is made by the Chinese, also I've got the clone of that again made by Chinese, and they are flimsy!

get the cheap Aldi ones.

Nooooooooo, they're junk aswell, we've had 3 different ones, all had to be returned due to squeaking sound or horrible none functional software.

Come with 3 Year warranty.

No I realise that, just meant that I wouldn't have to return it to china :)

Yes which is useless I was told they couldn't fix it so go get a refund, only had each for a few weeks and all were awful.

Ok on your feedback, they are useless despite Aldi stocking these on a regular occurence. I doubt they would continue to sell products which are not generating profit because as you said they are all rubbish. And the warranty does not tell you to return to store, they replace the said item if they can't fix it.

I am going to morrisons some time today OP - do you want to pm your number and I will see what they still have in stock? I promise not to give you any abusive middle of the night text messages lol

I've had one of those cheap iPod shuffle lookalikes from China before and they don't last a week. One of mine broke in a few days and the replacement only lasted a week so I just binned it - not worth returning to China all the time due to the postage costs..

If you can't afford an iPod look into a Creative mp3 player. They're good and don't come with the added cost of just having the Apple logo.

A PSP is massive and not a decent music player for been out and about.

hardly any bigger than a decent mp4 player which is what the op wants

4gb Pink mp4 player £27.99......

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sweex-MP474-Vidi-Player-Pink/dp/B0031S79I4/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1282403441&sr=1-4

I'd agree with the rest in that if you want a quality product that will last you're better off paying more,
but if budget is the biggest factor, that's the cheapest mp4 player i've seen so far.

They also have 8gb version...

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sweex-Vidi-MP484-8GB-Player/dp/B00355CC4Y/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1282403714&sr=1-5

aswell as various colours.....

http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Delectronics&field-keywords=sweex+vidi&x=0&y=0

Reviews arent great, but as said if budget is the biggest factor i'd personally go with something like this fram Amazon which has a guarantee / opportunity for return if faulty etc, than a cheaper version from ebayer or similar.

Sorry cant edit above post,

cant get link 3 to work,

just search sweex vidi on amazon and it'll show you the others they have.

Its for a child, it doesn't need to be 'good' all singing all dancing, just dont want it to break within the first 5 minutes!
I apologise if I've offended some people by not buying a 9 year old an ipod touch, I'm afraid that I have a severely limited budget, and I also bring my kids up to respect what they have, not what everybody else has.
Bossyboots, my apologies, only just seen your reply! Thanks for the offer, I'll have a look round mine (on holiday at the mo and theres several morrisons over here!)
#32
i was only saying you would be very lucky to get a player that plays mp's and videso all for £20, all singing all dancing or not...no need to get on one oO... that's why i suggested a sansa clip but if you want it to play videos as well as mp3's and only want to sepnd £20 then good luck with that, if you do find one i'm sure it will be of very good quality and will last days ;)

Was going to recommend the Sansa Fuze that can play video but you wont get one for £20 unless someone is selling one used. Ive got one and its great.
