Hi guys, my little ones birthday is coming up and he is desperate for a MR Men birthday cake, i have tried the local bakers but to make one is looking at between £40 and £60.

Can anyone point me in the direction of where i can get one cheap? Anywhere in london.

Thanks.

You could take a photo/picture of the Mr Men into a supermarket that has the facility for putting pictures on cakes. I know some Asdas do it, and some Tescos.
#2
Can you get a picture of the Mr Men and get one of those photo cakes done at ASDA for £10?
Don't know if they allow it though because of copyright.

A quick google brought these up. Maybe make a cake yourself (or buy a plain one) and stick these on top? I like the big ones but the rice paper ones are cheaper. I did use a place once that you sent a photo to and they made you a rice paper picture of it to stick on top of a cake, but I can't remember what they were called!

I did that before for his 3rd Birthday when he wanted a Fireman Sam cake.

I ideally wanted one where i didnt have to go to that trouble but i will keep that in mind, Thanx for that.

Make one, they have rollable coloured icing in ASDA, would be easy to make a Mr Man.

They sell Icing Cake topper in ebay, can be personalised to add child's name and age too. I haven't tried it, but you can have a look to see if its suitable. Item number: 250734973660

Thanx guys, i think I will do just that, having to arrange a party on top of it all i wanted to keep costs to minimum.

i have been to all my local supermarkets that do the cakes, nobody will put the picture or a cake topper on for me even though you can't buy a mr men cake anywhere. they all say its against copyright.

if i had time and big enough cake tins i would, i need one to feed 40 people!!!
#15
There must be loads of cake makers in your area, give them a call?
#16
any of the bakeries i have tried in my area want on average £60, i can't believe it is so expensive!!!

You could make your own really easy.
Mr strong cake
Bake 1 Large square cake, and 2 loaf tin cake.
Cover square cake with red easy roll icing. Cut 1 loaf cake in 2 and cover with icing. Then cut other loaf tin in half. do the fingers with 1 half cut into 10 and make hat with other half. Then paint face with writing icing. Sounds difficult but really easy to do.

Your other option is cup cakes - You can get Mr men sugar paper i'm sure I have seen it before and do cup cakes. You could do 40, get a stand from works for £5 and put 12 on that to look nice and all the others put around the base. If you decide to do this option let me know and I will see if I can find some of the sugar papers for you.

Also I know a baker in Warwickshire that is really cheap but bit of a journey for you!

This place is based in Lewisham, maybe you could try and go down there and negotiate on the price?

The cake looks amazing and feeds 35:

Really ? my son went to a wrestling party last week and the mum of the birthday boy was telling me how his cake was a pic of his wrestling lunchbox for school that they printed off and took to Asda and they put it on .

I found it really easy ( and i am not the best with things like that ) just buy an already made up icing sugar in a tube and smooth over cake then stick topper on and leave to dry, honest it was really easy :D.....even for me !!

i have asked in park royal, wembley, beckton and crossharbour asdas and none of them will do it, i think my best option is the topper stuck on with icing. but i am going to check out that place in lewisham tho.

I don't ever remember being given the choice of cake I got for my birthday, I always liked it being a surprise, oh well. I got a bit in a serviette which ended up crushed in my pocket or such, make a cake don't worry about it feeding 40, its only a bit of cake, blimey if you're worried about the finances of it all, make it yourself, it will be worth it and get your 6 year old to help you, even more family fun.

I was thinking more about the first 3/4 of your post.. But joking about making a Mr grumpy cake is hardly 'shooting you down' over family baking and skills development.. Jeez.

Sorry, I didn't mean to offend you with my post. Maybe "a Mr Uppity cake" would have been more appropriate..

lol not even close to grumpy just funny, like cake crumbs in your pockets but I guess you've yet to experience your 6th birthday yet.

PS, jelly and ice cream is a wicked combo, trust.

Still a lot to pay for a 6yr olds b/day party though , to sit on the table for a couple of hours , put candles in, sing happy birthday and then cut up , i personally wouldnt pay that much for a b/day cake ...........different if its a christening, wedding , 18th or 21st cake !
