Oh god, I've had these problems with my creative zen touch..it drove me crazy at the time. What version of WMP do you have? This does make a difference..
#2
it doesn't like windows media player 11. roll back to wmp 10 and see if that helps.
#3
Mine is actually working fine with the latest update from wmp11, but didn't work before, so it might be okay if you update WMP instead..
#4
i got 11, but it was 10 b4 and i had the same problem, i downloaded the creative player thingy and it said i needed the latest windows media player
:@

update it, hmm i just downloaded wm11 today, so it must be with the latest updates. out of interest did urs also cum up with the mtp device 'found new hardware' bubble. the bubble keeps refreshing and its driving me nuts!

Yes it did, and thats the problem..now mine comes up as portable device, and appears and I can drag and drop once again :w00t:
Do a check for updates in WMP11 anyway, right click near the top then Help>Check for updates

Otherwise I don't know, I was able to use winamp to transfer music in the meantime...but even that took alot of fiddiling about with..

this may seem a silly question, but how is winamp or window media player update gona solve the found new hardware bubble. :s i thot it cud be something to do with a driver or something. btw i tried to do what yo said, however i can't click on 'check for updates', assuming tht its updated. i tried synchronising it with wmp but it cant find the device .

You'd be surprised!! I found my solutions in the creative forums..but when I look at them now I see that they have a new layout etc. But my suggestion is that you delve in there and see what you can find

This might seem a little basic - but try it on a different USB port.
Also do a hard reset of the device using the pin.

Most likely though it is a WMP problem as this is what contains the MTP drivers. If you have installed WMP11 then completely remove it, reboot making sure you keep the device disconnected. Then reinstall.
#10
wot pin ? i no about reseting it by holding the on button, taking the battery out until i get a reset menu. is this wot ur talking about? i am gona try uninstalling it as well rite now, lets c if i can get this fixed today... its amazingly frustrating :@
#11
i tried what you said, uninstalled it then re installed it. still no luck :(. i am reluctant to give up! does ne1 else have ne experience with this model?
#12
OK, this will sound extreme - roll back to WMP9. Try that. All the drivers for your creative zen are in WMP, hence that being the issue. I've got a Creative Zen micro - it hated WMP11. I ended up on WMP9 to use it. Make sure you remove WMP11 first, and reboot the system before plugging anything in.
#13
I had one briefly, plugged it in and worked fine with one PC but not with another - I'd put it back before trying to figure out what the problem was.

Does it ever make any progress when installing, does it show a failure message of any sort? Or does it just loop permanently? If you go into device manager and point the mp3 player to look for drivers what does it find?

i think it is doing to what u are referring to as looping. device manager keeps refreshing when its connected to the pc. i am currently using wmp9, i rolled back as adviced but facing the same issues, i hav read tht it prefers 10, so i am gona try that.
what do u mean by progress in installing?
#15
i dno if this helps, but for some reason the computer now accepts that its a creative zen microphoto instead of an MTP device. in the device manager it is labelled with a yellow exclamation mark, and says it requires the correct driver. i hav refreshed, searched for drivers but it has found nothing!
#16
I'd say thats good news  If it won't find the driver then take it from creatives website..
#17
how??? i am searching thru it and its not there! i think they only provide it in the installation cd which i dnt have!
#18
Follow through the select your product form HERE

edit: Forget that, I dont know why they don't have the drivers there..

Heres the advice I found on another website:

In XP, the device manager wants to look for a driver. Disregard the driver and select one manually, using MTP/Portable device default driver. It will give you a warning about the device and driver not being compatible. Install it anyway and reboot the system. Log back in and it works.
#21
But come to think of it you may need WMP10 or more for that...this is one hellish task. So maybe it will work as an MTP device.

that makes sense, thanks for ur efforts. just tel me wot driver to assign manually, i cant fint no mtp or portable device driver?
#23
Ha..well from the other forum it says
"you need at least windows media player 10 for the player to work since it is an MTP device"

So if you are running WMP9 then you may have to upgrade it again!! I feel like I'm leading you in a vicious circle here..
#24
lol no... i appreciate ur help. i tried wmp10, but its not lettng me install it for some reason, i am gona try 11, coz the forum says at least 10...
#25
i can't get wm10 to instal, it says not compatible with this version of windows :@ . i think i was better of with windows media player 9.
#26
after installing wmp10, device manager has finally recognised it 'creative zen microphoto' under portable devices.
when i connect it, a window pops up asking whether i want to synchronise it with windows media player. i thought it was over, but windows media player doesnt see that a device has been connected even tho device manager does so.

it seems like i am close, jus dno wot the nex step shud be ...
