I'm fuming!! My sons just come in after being mugged by a guy for his phone. He was with his cousin and the guy made them both hand over their phones. It's stupid! It wasn't even a good phone, but the guy had my son pinned to the wall by his neck and demanded his cousin hand over first or else.

Pointless going to the police though. A similar thing happened about a year ago to him and the police just admitted they couldn't do anything..

The problem my son has though is when he has a phone, he puts his tunes on full blast and uses it like a ghetto blast (blast from the past). So it's like advertising what he's got. He can't see anything wrong though and will probably do the same with his next phone.

What is the point though? Surely the thief knows that you'll phone the network and turn the phone and sim off, so they end up with just a lump of plastic.

Oh well, I just hope he learns that you can't flash the phone around.

oh well it used to be trainers a few years back.....at least they can walk home with somat on their feet
#2
oh no! - I do admit sometimes youngsters do flash them about, but that is no excuse for theft. Make sure its reported to the police because this is a serious incident.
#3
Make sure you block it like you said.

Tell son to keep phone not on display and on quietly when he's listening to it in public for his own safety.

Enrole him in some self defence x x

your son shouldnt play music on loud as it attacts people and its also rude
saying that its not an excuse, you should definatly phone the police as if they dont take out the sim they could track it and even if they cant they might know who it is from the description your son gives

tell him next time to use the headphones or do without a phone

He used to do kick boxing but dropped it cause he wanted to go out more with his friends and said it was boring. I wish ne'd kept it up now!

I think you should report this to the police, it sounds like assault and robbery x 2 to me.

Unsolved crimes might get more Cops on your' local streets and even a footpatrol now and then?
#7
Sometimes it's not about the theft but the power of bullying.....

would still report to the police

buy him a cheap phone

phones can be sold overseas even if they are blocked

would you walk around with 200 quid just hanging about in your hand for all to see?

nothing different about a phone eiither....oportunist will take it/grab it

sorry to hear about your son and his cousin. That must've been horrible for them. At least they are ok and that is the main thing.

xx

my sister is 13 and she does the loud music thing with hers they all do it i think they look like idiots but its not much different to when we had walkmans haha hope your son is ok and not too upset by it all at least it was only a phone there are some horrible people out there your son should be able to do what he wants with his phone its horrible the way things are now,
i would report it just so the police know it might be someone they have caught or if it keeps happening and they do catch someone your son might just help be a wintness ect

hope hes ok :)

My daughter is a junior black belt in korokokai jujitsu. I'm not sure she'd be up to hurting anyone though. Worlds apart really isn't it. But some self defence helps increase their confidence anyway.

Make sure he only has a PAYG cheapo phone. He wont feel any need to draw attention to it then x x

yeah thats why they still sell on ebay

hopefully the mugger will get scammed by the italians and get nothing lol
#15
Well hopefully he'll learn his lesson from it and stop walking around with his music blaring.
#16

Probably like this seller (ebay item 310140133490), as who would have a collection of 50 mobile phones? :x
#18
Might as well report it to the police but nothing will come of it unless you hand the case to them, pre-solved, on a plate. My younger brother was at a party a few months ago and two thugs came in, uninvited and stole mobiles, ipod, etc out of peoples coats that were in another room. They knew who these thugs were but still the police couldn't do anything. Useless.

And i woulnd't recommend telling him to try and fight future muggers off and be a hero with karate or whatever. Best just hand over the mobile and claim on the insurance. Much rather that than getting beaten up over it. It sucks but at least he's safe still :)

p.s. buy him headphones! :D

Tell Him to stand his Ground

I remember the trainers trend.

if hes trying to act cool or "bad", maybe thats why he is targeted

+1
Don't think he can stand his ground if he's got him in the neck. The good old slap the head with both hands trick should fix that . Tell him to take some self defense classes.
#24
But his cousin was there. or maybe because im more the violent type.
#25
Just be thankful he had it robbed rather than claim he had when selling for drugs!
#26
Report this to the cops - there may be CCTV in the area.
#27
Got no sympathy for him if hes one of those annoying lot with the music blaring everywhere they go.

ITS NOT EVEN MUSIC - ITS JUST NOISE

No phone is worth being stabbed for!! Even if the guy didnt have a knife, the way things are in this country its just not worth the risk!!

Totally... we tell our kids.. someone tries to get your phone... throw it to one side and run in the opposite direction.

My 15 yr old daughter came home the one night and I couldn't believe she'd fought two girls for her phone... I was like, whyyy didn't you just let them have it?
#32
I like to think im still young now.

But being young does not involve playing your music on the back of the bus, through shopping centres etc.

I would say that we are rather lucky here, there are numberous other countries where such a scenario would be a lot more serious.
#34
I guess none of you have to get the bus every day then?

If he walks around blasting off his music he's gotta be ready to be violent then.

definately report it to the police. Just because they were not able to do anything the last time it doesn't mean they wont be able to do anything this time.
