I'm really interested and would be grateful for some honest answers to the following please:

Why do music/cd deals, in the main, get such a cold reception on HUKD ?

I've tried a couple of times to post such deals and they go down like a lead balloon to say the least :giggle:
I've tried searching as much as possible on the deal section to see what reaction other CD deals get and usually it's the same.
The best deal in recent times I can find was the "War of the Worlds" CD, and quite rightly so !

Don't get me wrong I'm not sitting here crying about "my latest deal" but I am genuinely interested in the social aspect of music. I'm NOT interested in whether Robbie is better than Liam or whatever, just in what members think about music/cd deals on HUKD.

Thanks for any input. :)

I wouldn't vote cold on them, but the plain and simple fact is, that I don't buy CDs :) I think the same might apply to quite a few others members here...

I just stick to more specialist albums in DVD-A and SACD formats. I'm a keen follower of high-res audio bargains and am always looking for deals on them myself.

I was going to post a couple of pre-release bargains on a couple of the next Depeche Mode remasters, but wasn't sure if the Amazon listings were correct and didn't want to disappoint people if they turned out to be the wrong editions (DTS & SACD). They've gone up in price now so must be correct after all...

I don't expect these deals to set on fire as they appeal to a limited few, but they always seem to be appreciated. My Talking Heads post went as well as can be expected :)

maybe its also due to the vast differences in music taste, some people can have strong opinions too on whats good and whats not, some vote according to taste too as opposed to the bargain of the deal , which shouldnt be the case but sadly is

Thanks for the replies folks.

Emmajk42. You say you don't buy Cd's but do you still listen to music ? If so how do you listen to it ?

Loupomm. Do you download and burn to a cd or just listen to music through your computer ?

MBeeching. Thanks !

Hope you don't mind me asking the questions. Like I say I have an interest in how music is perceived nowadays.

Appreciated :)

A lot of people vote according to whether they like the deal or not, so if they dont like the artist then they will vote a CD thread cold. Shouldnt be done unless the price is not the best you could get it for, but try telling that to people!

Is frustrating but dont take it personally, I am sure that some people will be pleased with your thread

I'm not taking anything personally kelly_o_fanatic ! Read the opening post and you will see what I was asking :)

I'm fully aware of the stupidness of "vote it cold because it's not for me" syndrome.

Anyway, tell me kelly_o_fanatic do you buy/listen to music and if so how ?

Thanks for your input :)

I usually buy CDs of little known bands such as Vacuum, Rhapsody on Fire, Within Temptation, etc. That's why deals of 'mainstream' bands are not getting my attention. Probably the most 'mainstream' band I like is Nightwish :)

For your info

Personally I find that i dont tend to spend money on CDs anymore. If i think something will be worth it i download it on iTunes. I tend to burn some Music on CD myself to listen to in the car otherwise its on the ipod for the gym or when commuting. I think the CD format is just a dead man walking to be honest when flash memory media is in more wider use noone will bother with CDs.

With similar, though probably more extreme, tastes to Kommunist I have to confess to buying all my CD's from a Russian seller on Ebay. Most of my favourite bands are not mainstream at all and these attract a big premium from established UK record shops, if available at all. On average I can get them from Russia for about £5 each including 1 week shipping. They are identical to the UK releases (except for the 'not to be sold outside Russia etc bit on the back....).

I vote some deals hot on here, though. Recent examples would be the War of the Worlds at £5.99, the Firefly DVD boxset and the DVD boxset going from the first world war to the present whose title escapes me. I always try to leave rep when I use someone's bargain as well.

In general most CD/DVD posts are inevitably going only to appeal to a few people as tastes vary. This might be the reason for the lack of 'heat'

Thanks to all that have contributed. It's very interesting to get peoples views and musical habits.

I grew up in the 60's and music to me and my friends was basically one of the three must know about and have things. (Girls and fashion were the others.)
Every Saturday morning we would religously be at the local record store checking out the new releases and then on the Saturday night at whatever was the hippest club desperately trying to pick up the hippest chick.

I could never have imagined a world where music is out of that top three but sadly I think it probably doesn't even make the top ten nowadays !

Anyway I am grateful for folks contributions, keep them coming and I promise not to start waffling on again :)

Just wondering what is 'more extreme but similar' is?
Apart from those mentioned above, these bands are in my list of preference:

Therion, Divine Fire, Dark Moor, Burning Point, Crystal Eyes, Falconer, Frequency, Great White, Gaia Epicus, Hamka, Heavenly, Kingdom Come, Manticora, Sonata Arctica, Zandelle.

Don't think that any of these are 'mainstream' though.

Hi Kommunist. I'll pm you - I doubt the other members want an extensive list of weird bands that we both like!
