Pro Evo 09, Gears of War 1+2, COD2/4/5, Fallout 3(if you can handle deep RPG's), Forza 2, Guitar Hero 4 World tour(brilliant!), deffo Bioshock - absolutely fantastic shooter.

If you wanna go online with a shooter it's COD4 all the way - astonishing online.

Yea, Bioshock is awesome (one of my fave games), but there's more to it than just running and shooting, which OP didn't want....

Also GOW isn't really run and shoot, more like, run, hide, shoot, run, hide, shoot, die. I didn't really like it. Worth a try though!

I absolutely hated Halo 3, lol! Just couldn't get away with it, at all.... :?

Give Bioshock a go, though, liddle - it really is good

Download the Lef4dead demo from xbox live - it could be just the thing you are looking for.......

COD3 is simpler and cheaper than COD4 and still a good game. COD4 weights the game against new online players so expect to get wiped out for the next year....

how does it weight against new players? I'm looking at getting it, think i'll get slaughtered for a while though!! tbh i'm still really enjoying Halo, but i'm no means any good at that!!

The more online time you have the more your rank improves. The higher rank you have the more perks you get - like extra stopping power, more choice of weapons etc. Until you work your way up the ranks you'll just be cannon fodder....

The left4dead demo is good....

Bioshock is not your conventional shooter by any stretch of the imagination, you can go literally ages at times without seeing anybody mid-level, I love the 40's style soundtrack, voiceovers and overall feel. I wasn't that impressed during the first hour.....but after a while I was really taken aback with it.

You face a lot of personal choice in Bioshock which is very refreshing, whether or not to take on the Big Daddy's(level guardian's) or save the 2 small children (almost literally) attached to them in each level leaves you with pure freedom of choice, you are rewarded in differing ways whether your choice was the 'good or bad' option.

I wouldn't say the combat/shootouts are upto COD4 standard, but as part of what makes the game so special it's more than good enough within the framework of the experience which the programmers acheived.

The use of plasmids(chemical compounds) really does bring ingenuity and invention into the console shooter, as in your able to put enemy's to sleep/use telekenisis on them/make enemies attack each other/protect you etc etc.

A must buy if you like shooter's - or even if your like me and not too fussed over them usually.

i must be the only person in the world that thinks bioshock is rubbish!
Like others have said COD4 is probably my most played game having played it pretty much every week since release day.

But the left 4 dead demo has REALLY impressed me. So maybe that'll be the one to get over xmas, who knows?

Oh and i'm not interested in cod :waw i played the beta and it seems too much like cod3 multiplayer rather than cod4, so will probably wait until it's cheap :P

If you can pick them up cheaply enough, I quite liked the first Rainbow Six: Vegas, too, and Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter, although they have a little more to them than just running and shooting....

People have already said it, but Bioshock is absolutely incredible. Probably one of the best games I've had the pleasure of playing in the last few years.

I played Halo 3 shortly after and sold it after 2 weeks. I don't like online FPS games (I suck at them!) and compared to Bioshock the single player is appalling. But it's all just personal choice.

Do what I do, buy a pre-owned game from somehwere like Gamestation, if you don't like it, trade it in for another one.It saves you paying £40 for a new game only for you not to like it.
