Just wondering about the above question, I have formatted the hard drive and thats the amount of meory thats showing on it. Is this correct?

yes... that is right, the 360 uses some of the hdd for cacheing etc

The rest of it is taken up with system updates, backwards compatibility software etc. Its all stored in a partition that you cant access for user data, even if formatted.
