QUESTIONS

1) I need at least 1 DVD-RW drive from this list:
http://www.ebuyer.com/store/Components/cat/CD---DVD-Drives

Do I select a IDE drive or a SATA drive?

2) Also my Hard drive is OEM. What cables/whatever do I need to get?

Does any of the other components I've listed require any extra cable buying?

3) I have enough fans yes? The case has 2 120mm fans which I was told to get.

4) Are the mobo and cpu are compatible?

5) Does all this look good to you?

That HDD is not the quickest, have a look at the similarly priced 160Gb SATA drives from Western Digital. SATA drives are your only option these days. The motherboard will only have one IDE header which you'll want for optical drives. Plus it's quicker (in theory). As the Motherboard is new it will come with at least 2 SATA data cables 1 floppy and one ATA133 cable for your optical drive. The PSU should supply at least 2 SATA power connectors. DVD-RW wise i have a pioneer 112D and it's brilliant. I'll get a mate to take a closer look for you, he's a gamer too.

I would go with a core 2 duo instead of a AMD processor.

Had a quick look and personally I would double the memory & put a floppy disc in and a 250Gb SATA2 in it, like this one:
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/131301:)

Remeber when you are installing the O/S that you will need to press F6 to add the driver for the hard drive (being SATA)
The SATA drivers will be on the mobo disc so just copy them to a floppy disc and away you go :)

Oh ye' and stick with XP 32bit (64bit is a bit buggy)

Not necessary, I haven't a floppy drive in years, and my 6 monthly XP re-install has never required it, running 2 SATA drives myself.

What advantages are there in doing this?
#6
you also either need to change your mobo or computer case as your case is mATX and your mobo is ATX, they are 2 different form factors and arnt compatable with each other.
#7
Could you select me a good mobo please? I'm a bit clueless as to this.

I've researched the cpu and found some benchmarks for it against similar Intels and it performed slightly better.

At the moment they've got the lead performance wise. Also put out less heat too.
#9
How about this for memory
http://www.hotukdeals.com/deal/56889/2gb-ddr2-800mhz-pc6400-19-95-21-90-

Doubles the memory for a similar cost.
#10
10% off (the OS) by using linux/the pirate bay....
#11
infact you'll be better off just changing the case, much easier
#12
Okay I'll choose a new case. Any ideas about CPU?

Might wanna take a look at the original case again, the bit where it says "Takes Micro and Full Size Boards" or read the review for the case dimensions :)

Dimensions
Depth/Length 460mm
Width 190mm
Height 370mm

Same case on scan: http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=446040

Thanks soupy. You say it's bigger, is this a problem for the components I've selected, or just for the physical desk space the case must fit into?
