Hi everyone,

I want to order an laptop at play.com. However i recieved an email from Play.com and it said that my Play.com order required an additional security check. So I canceled this order and reorder the same laptop. The same email was sent to me.

I login my account to find my account had been declined.

Your Play.com order requires an additional security check

Dear *********

Thank you for your recent order with Play.com.

At Play.com, we value your custom and take your online security very
seriously. Accordingly we have an additional security check in place.

To perform this check we ask that you contact our Customer Support Team on
0845 800 1020 ( UK only ) or +44 (0)1534 877 595 ( outside UK ). Our
opening hours are 9am - 8pm Monday to Friday and 9am - 5pm Saturday and
Sunday. Please have the card registered on the account to hand so that we
can process your order as quickly as possible.

Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused you
and thank you for your patience and valued custom.

Kind Regards,

Play
--------------------------------

I can confirm my credit card and address info is correct because I have ever ordered at play.com before.

I have tried to call them, but their service is unavailable now.

Does anyone has the same experience? Any advice would be appreciated greatly. Thanks.

BTW, I used cashback website and 5% discount code.

Can you email them?

It happens from time to time. I've never had it from play though.... Just try to ring them again, it should be fine

I had the same email recently cos I got the 3 digit code on the back of my card wrong, log back in, reenter your card details and try again, you may have missed a digit off

I expect that it's because you ordered a laptop. It's one of the biggest areas of fraud and because your account is new, they are adding this check. So nothing to worry about, but you'll have to call them. They may ask for further ID.

Its probably just part of their fraud screening process.

Card Fraud across the internet is running at very high levels and in a lot of cases the merchant (i.e. Play) are liagble for the chargeback (fraud claim) if a transaction is fraudulent.
TV's, mobile phones, laptops, electricals etc.. are all desirable products which are easier to sell on for near RRP as such additional checks are often carried out on these transactions which is whats probably happening hear.

They might be happy just talking to you or want some additional ID

they've done it to me quite a few times recently. just ring them up and give answers to a few security questions and your order will then be processed.

Ring the card company, they will tell you why it was declined and put it right so that when u use the card again it will go straight through.

Like others have said.. its nothing you have done wrong. Its just additional checks play do to cover themselves.

Did it to me at start of the year when I wanted a ps3 from playtrade, kept saying to ring them but until then the order was cancelled.

By the time they sorted it they were all out of stock(£200 for a refurb ps3) and I was annoyed.

It's nothing to worry about,

Your bank has probably frozen your account temporarily because they see this as unusual activity on your account. Play will either give you a phone number to phone or will ask you to go through some security questions.

Sometimes banks pick random people to do checks on. I used to work in a supermarket and we got it all the time. The customers would get so annoyed and blame us, had to explain it is their bank who has requested for us to check out your card.

My bank did it to me and I was only buying something for £20, I was sooo annoyed but then thought to myself if someone else was using my card I would hope my bank would spot it. :)

Match the number in the email to one on the site first as I would never give out bank details through a contact received in an email regardless of how legit it seems.

Not saying that this is a phishing scam but just that it pays to be cautious.

i think your account was delcined because you tried to avoid the addition security check, cancelling the order and then re-ordering the same one. So it does look very dodgy when that happens, but yeah as you are going to do, ring them up is the best way to get it solved.

Play did this to me when I ordered two nds lites. They just want to check it is really you ordering it due to the high cost. I just phoned the number and confirmed my details. Then the order went straight through.

How did you get on ???

Ive just had the same thing aswell when trying to order a TV.

Spoke to play who took same details as i registered, told me they had to fill in a form and would reply within 72 hours, its now the weekend and this wont be sorted till monday at best, i thought this was ridiculous.

Phoned bank to confirm nothing has happened, so it is on play's end.

Phoned play back to speak to someone who knew what they are talking about. They just double check details and a fraud check is done on the account, if all is well the order is processed.

We had it when we ordered the telly, and i rang all worried-but they just said with higher value items they check every so many just to make sure its not someone ordering in your name.

It all went through fine once we rang.
