My ASDA value vacuum cleaner almost caught fire

Haven't used this one for long, started using it today and a little smoke started comign out the back. There was a burning smell in the air and the suction rapidly decreased as the noice lowered its frequency. Will have to throw it in the bin.

Not very good of asda to sell such dodgy equipment. I guess you get what you pay for.

Unfortunately I don't have the receipt.

If you have not had it for long, take it back to ASDA. It might be a fault they need to know about. It doesn't matter how cheap it was. I reckon they'll give you your money back if you go into the store with it.

Yes, do take it back. Might be a fault with the design.

Thanks,

Are you sure there's much point returning it if I don't have the receipt? It's quite a long walk.

Yes, because if it's fault with the design they need to know about it. If it is, who's to say what will happen to the next person using one.

I think possibly the cord may have been pulled too hard in previous uses. In which case I may have narrowly escaped an electric shock. I did hear some sizzling too.

You don't need a receipt to return a faulty item, you just need to be able to prove that you bought the item at that store (e.g. a credit card bill/bank statement showing the transaction). In your case, as it's an ASDA cleaner they can't very well argue that you didn't buy it from them.

You could always drive, ride a bike, take a bus, get a lift! ;-)

Ride a bike carrying a vacuum cleaner? The bus would be ok but it costs about £3 and a new vacuum cleaner would only cost £17

Hi,

I didn't say this was the first time I used it. I said I haven't used it many times. :)

edit: I see the error. I meant to say that I hadn't used it for a while but started using it today. I never thought I'd say I was lucky to be so lazy.

suck it up and move on

Hey I forgot to tell you I rang them.

They didn't seem interested at all. They were mainly concerned that I didn't have the receipt and flatly refused to refund anything.

I had to force them to even enter it as a fault into their log book.

I won't be buying own brand asda electrical stuff ever again lol.
