Good rule....MSN sucks! Stopped using that at home in 2004.

The economy needs you...work hard, avoid breaks and do extra hours and the country will thrive again and the bankers will get their bonuses again......
banned#3
I would imagine it's because people aren't using it solely to communicate with clients/suppliers.

It's probably being used to chat with friends more than for work purposes. In which case, I totally agree with him.

Good rule for employers

Stops employees chatting to non business related people when they should be working for their employer.

Most business would not use such an insecure service as MSN to do business when emails are the norm.

The good people of HUKD have voted in favour of my boss.... Okay let me provide some additional information, only certain account managers are allowed msn, there chat histories are logged, and the only contacts they can add is suppliers or corporate clients ... networks managers and the project manager can log into the msn and read the conversations at any time, we have had two emails from our clients so far to say that they will not bother wasting time sending emails or calling on most occsaions ... ?

COuld it be because Instant Messages (along with Emails) are deemed to be legally admissible documents, and as such if you say something to a supplier on MSN they could take your boss to court if your company fails to do what you've said...

Depends on your business whether or not it is appropriate. Each and every email I send (right through to the MD/CEO and Chairman) must be counter-signed and is stored on an extensive database with all the necessary details. I don't think MSN would be appropriate for our business, but nor would our clients and suppliers.

I know... you can gamble but not rent movies lol... bizzare lol :p

Dell (the company, I mean) has an interesting system. They've got an in-house MSN Messenger server, so all the employees can talk to each other via that. It can't connect to the outside world's MSN Messenger servers and you can't sign in using your Windows Live ID, just your work account.

Although, by "interesting", I mean "sh*t". How's a boy meant to skive without MSN?

Standard feature, Exchange 2000 would function as internal MSN server but realising there was money in it with Exchange 2003 MS separated the function to a separate package.

We have no external IM at work, just a company wide IM system which only works within the main company (worldwide).

in work we have an internal form of msn which is a good idea as it only allows communication with other employees and can be useful
