i do feel i made the right decision because he was losing ability in all aspects; his eyes, ears, and he was losing the ability to walk.
He was my best friend, I've had him since I was 4. I really miss him, and can't stop thinking about when they did the injection. I just wanted to hold and stroke the poor little fella. I feel devastated, like I've lost part of my family.

not funny in this situation. Dogs become your best friend and part of the family espechially as he grew up with him since the age of 4

Well I was just trying to point it out and possibly inject a little light heartedness into a sad situation? It certainly wasn't a mickey take and I apologise if that is how it is taken

this was me and the little fella :(
#13
that is really sad news, i know people just assume a dog is just an animal, but i've only had my dog for around 10months and he is defo considered part of my family

just think how happy he made you feel and vice versa, its a very tough decision but like others have said you helped him in the end

Cute dog.

How old are you now Dan?
#15
Sad times OP.

Sorry to hear it. - Done the right thing if he was suffering though. Something you know will come one day when you get a dog, you just never want it too. My dogs are great and I love them, never want them to go, but thats just life isnt it.

Look at the good memories, looking to getting a new dog/pet in the coming months? My house would feel empty without a dog init.

LOL, not bad, i know u weren't taking the mickey.

Putting him to sleep was more humane than keeping the little fella alive. I know exactly how you feel and can only sympathise with what you are going through mate.

Just think of the 17 years of good times you had. You need that picture blowing up and sticking on your wall as a constant reminder of what a great friend he was.

'He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion'

i think this sums it up mate, i thik he will appreciate that you made sure the pain was ended

I miss her like crazy!! The usual things...how she used to run out the door yapping as soon as you came home, & I'm one of those softies that always let her sleep on the bed so It was very strange not to hear her snoring at night  she was a little bu**er at times but I wouldn't have been without her. Its when I read things like this it upsets me again but I've got loads of lovely photos of her... the worst thing is she loved the snow so I know she would have been in her element right now  tell your mum it takes time as most people who have lost their dogs will agree xxx

You have lost a part of your family Dan and it is devastating.
A few years ago, I held our old black lab, who had reached the same sort of stage as your Zack, in my arms as he slipped away and I felt so, so sad but it was absolutely the right thing to do. We all cried a lot.

There were some nice words in this thread, from some months ago:

My sympathies to you Wendy as well.
