I've had this a few times now and I change the password regularly now and add numbers to the end to make it harder for them to hack into my hotmail account.

It prob aint been hacked.

your address will have got onto some spammers list, and hes sending with your email in the from field. doesnt mean hes hacked you - email is a poor system build without the internet in mind in general.

I wouldn't worry.

The important thing is to NOT use the same password for hotmail as you use to register for other web sites.

The way hackers do this is that they get you to register for some web site or other - and most web sites now use an email address / password combination to register for a web site.

But if you register on a web site using the SAME email address / password combination as you do to log on to hotmail, then you have given away your hotmail password to them.

ALWAYS make sure you hotmail/gmail etc password is unique and NOT used on any other web site.

Happened to me a short while back..
All my mates were asking me why I was sending them Viagra emails!

Make your password a bit more complicated and that should do the trick :)

I've just been locked out of at least one of my accounts. Asks me for a mobile number to verify I'm me. Makes me a bit uncertain whether or not to do so as if someone does have access to my email then in 10 seconds time they'll also have my contact phone number.

Not to mention the potential of Microsoft having my phone number. That'd be worse still! Heheh!

is that normal...a phone number to verify?

I really don't know... My bank and mobile accounts use a phone number to verify but never had an email provider ask for it before.

I think my best bet might be to give hotmail the elbow and transfer everything to another provider. Not a task I'm looking forward to as I've got a lot (and I mean a LOT) of accounts with shopping sites, money, forums and so on.

Microsoft... What a pain in the **** region!

Oh 'eck... That sounds ominous. Just go back from the boozer so will have a look tomorow. Otherwise my inside leg and birthmark will be common knowledge tomorow!

Gmail have also added the mobile phone feature (when your account is hacked, you state it's been hacked via the website, they send you a confirmation code, you stick that into the website and it will reset a password and you get access again).

hopefully ur ok then :)
