I have the same trouble with Tiscali my router keeps shutting down

so its not just me, im with orange

I had the same problem with a TalkTalk connection when visiting my dad's house. He had the router professionally installed, the guy even claimed it was a problem with the router.

I thought otherwise and delved into the router settings and solved the problem. Essentially I had to adjust some sort of overhead setting down to 14000 from around 14400. This stopped it cutting out :)

I think it was something to do with the overhead space necessary on the broadband line allocated to TalkTalk related information which had to be transmitted.

I'm having same difficulty with Tiscali. Only thru the wireless connection though. Kicks me off after minutes. Requested Mac code of them just prior to this as I'm switching to talktalk. Not sure if it's just a coincidence or not.

Orange (as said in other posts) is pants !

According to polls taken by Watchdog 68% of Orange customers are unhappy with the service they provide but apparantly some of these companies blame the wireless modems as the reason for losing connection on a regular basis.

I use 4mb through virgin media at my gf's and 8mb through aol at my mums and i do lose my connection from time to time.

Get Virgin (NTL) basic broadband as you don't need a phoneline. I'm currently testing the 20MB connection in Peterborough and it's fine. I've been with them for about 4 years and hardly had any probs.

We had this problem about 18 months ago. BT said it was our fault (we had our own router) but we explained numerous times that if you took ALL our lines connections to a neighbours house it worked fine. After about 2 months of heated wrangling, it turned out that their was a TINY flaw in the outside wiring, which was allowing damp into the cable (which explains why it was at its worse when it was raining) BT eventually fixed the cable and problem was solved.

 Is your service relatively new or have you recently upgraded your service:

 I had the same problem but with BT. It turned out that the problem was the size of the broadband service. I had 2 Meg but the actual telephone line could only take 0.5 meg. It was the distance from the exchange. I had to go back to 0.5 meg service.

All you need to do is change the signal - I had the same problem, also with orange.

I had to call orange, but maybe someone could explain how to do it without you calling?

Is simple to fix anyway :)

Found following link on improving router signal don't think it will work as its a Microsoft site!!
