Hi all, been a voyeur on here for 2 months and finally signed up. Anyhow, ive had my 42" LG LCD tv for nearly a year now and just recently it has started going like there is no tv signal or a poor tv signal. The picture goes a mesh of colours and even the channel selection goes a grey colour. I thought the aerial lead may be loose, but its every channel and only when tv is hot. Can any one help a newbie to the site? Cheers in advance.

Best get a move on in notifying the people you bought this off as after a year they tend to get awkward in responding and things get messy.
If it only happens after a warm up period it is very likely to be the tv, its is well ventilated yes?, that can be a get out for them if not.

yes its as well ventilated as can be. apart from putting a fan next to it :-D The problem is that it has only happened a couple of times , will Comet or Lg need to see the error or fault to replace/repair?

oh dear an intermittent one, umm that could be more tricky as yes they would expect to actually see the fault, anyway of getting it to do it on demand?, maybe leave the tv on for 24hrs?

could try it, any idea what the fault could be?

Its more likely a fault with the receiver, not that that is much help but can probably be worked round with an external digibox.
The screen distortion is a side effect simply because there is nothing to display.
Get it to collapse on demand then you can try a digibox and see if maybe you might consider just using that instead.

report it at least so they have note of the fault before the warranty date runs past.

will do guys. cheers for the help. Do you think it could be my sky digibox instead then?

sorry m8, didn't realise you meant it was thru a digibox, yes could be the sky box, as i said get it to fall over then try another source ie your dvd player, that will isolate whether its the box or not

ohh....i put money on the sky box. mine did that fairly regular, though i would get an all green screen now and again. now we have sky+ we have no such problem.

its a sky+ box and when i changed to scart, the fault was still there. Next time i'll try them all. including xbox 360

Try a few other sources as suggested to try and pinpoint if it's the tv.

With regards the guarantee, I had ONE DAY remaining on a CRT television guarantee a while back (sound fault), the engineer walked in and immediately wrote it off, didn't even touch it!

I was then posted a credit note from Comet for the full amount of the television. So, if it proves to be the tv, don't waste any time, get it reported!

Good luck!

I have an LG Plasma connected with Sky+ and this happens to me occasionally too.

I get a stripey grey/pink/green combination - I think it's more a Sky signal thing as it's usually when changing channels for me.

UPDATE: the Comet engineer came round and did a few basic fiddlings but to no avail. Since he's been, the frequency of the fault has got worse. Tried on xbox, dvd, sky and also with only the aerial as an input all to no avail.

This link is the basically the same fault as we're getting.
Have rung Comet care again and are coming back saturday this time we have recorded the fault on camcorder to show them. Any more ideas people?
