Hi all,

I bought a PS3 slim just over a week ago and when I have been playing FIFA 10 on it the picture freezes from time to time, on one instance it forced me to restart the machine but all other times the game continued within a split second. Sometimes when it freezes the machine makes a single "tick" noise, does anyone know anything about what could be going on?

Rep will be left for help/advice given.

Ta.

Sounds like it could possibly be an issue with the hard drive, I've had a few drives over the years that have developed ticking not long before giving up the ghost.

You could possibly try backing up your data and then format the drive to see if that helps. If the issue remains I would try a different drive for testing if you can.

seeing as it's so new i'd take it back to the shop (or send it back) and get it exchanged another one, i've had my ps3 a year now and it's never frozen.

Thanks, will try that the reformat. I'm reluctant to put another drive as its only just over a week old, maybe I should get a replacement if I'm going to have to open it up to sort it?

You don't need to open it to change the drive, and changing the drive does no void your warranty either.

Oh yeah, cool. Thanks everyone. Gonna backup and reformat and see if it helps, if not I'll have to take it(send it) back to Amazon. Rep for all.

TBH m8 a format will not cure a ticking hdd. Usually it means its gonna die. sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Also if its ticking this early i wouldnt trust it for anytime in the future.
