As some of you may know, I'm going to America for a month in August (don't cry, I'll be back). Our plan has expanded a lot since January and we seem to be covering even more distance than is probably possible. Anyway, I've compiled a list of places we're going and things in those places that we want to do. I'm looking for anything I might have missed off or any recommendations that you may have for any of these places.

Even if you can't help me, feel free to be nosy. And no, you can't come.

Toronto is in Canada

You can get mugged anywhere

That's a lot to do in a month.

It has the smell of someone who only wants to go to places they've seen in The OC or Gossip Girl and simply wants a photo standing in front of stuff to stick on Facebook.

I didn't say anything about The OC and I don't know where Gossip Girl is set. Those are just all the obvious things we could think of. We're spending the first 2 weeks driving down the West Coast and across to Vegas so hopefully will encounter some adventures along the way. Adventures which include not dying whilst driving and not angering any police.

That trip sounds awful, I would recommend spending your holliday in Hull or Wolverhampton.

i would enjoy vegas and orlando, the rest would bore me, why are u missing out disneyland?

enjoy tho!

Please read what I wrote again and highlight to me the bit that says 'Please feel free to bitch about my trip and tell me how crap it will be'

...oh right yeah, it's not there.

Enjoy your holiday in Blackpool this year. Much love.

I would really recomend cirque du soleil "O" at the Bellagio if you have time in Vegas, I got married in Vegas 3 years ago we had a fab time :-D Also dinner at the Top of the world restaurent at the top of the Stratoshere at night time is amazing.

NY

A good alternative to Empire State in NY is the Rockerfeller, same views, but you also get the Empire State in there for photos :)

Lindys Cheesecake, somewhere around 52nd to 54th and 7th (or 6th). Nice cheesecake and good breakfasts actually...

Gallaghers Steakhouse on 52nd West is nice as well, has an old gangster feel to it.

Hells Kitchen might be worth a look, we wanted to go, but only spend 3 days there and didn't get the chance.
#15
How is that humanly possible?! It'll take you half a year to do all that! It does sound awesome though (its a bit like thelma and louise crossed with desperate housewives...) and I am hugely jealous!

California alone is a massive state. If you're just going to hop from one 'landmark' to another then you'll miss out on so much. I've lost whole weeks (and more;-)) in San Francisco alone.

It just sounds like a really superficial trip. Enjoy.

Thank you! My only plans at the Bellagio at the moment involve loitering around looking for rich men, so that can be a better alternative ;-)

Thanks to you as well. Read somewhere else that the Rockerfeller is a better alternative to the Empire State Building so I will take that one on board.

not everone can afford or have the time to spend weeks in one place. It sounds like a fab trip. I wish i had done something like this before kids, i guess i'll just have to wait a few more years till there old enough to drag with me :)

That's kind of why we haven't booked anything apart from car hire in California though. The list isn't exhaustive and is subject to change. We have purposefully not booked accommodation etc in case we fall in love with somewhere and want to spend a lot of time there.

It is superficial to an extent anyway because there are just certain things that we want to do that are popular...pretty sure most people would do the obvious things if they were doing the same trip as well.

I'm only 23 F&F, I've got a lifetime to go back...I'm not old like you :p

I was looking at something similar or doing one of those TrekAmerica package trip things too

just out of curiosity how much did your car hire cost you?
im 21 and off to america tommorow and found renting a car one way in california for 2 weeks for £334 pretty much taking same route as you. Was struggling to find somewhere cheap because of young person fees

age is a bitch for you....

sounds like a great trip, would be better done in a few parts as califronia can and should take a month but as long as you see everything you want to see then go for it.....

how much money are you thinking of taking with you as things can be very epensive in the big cities....

wouldnt worry too much about toronto as Niagra falls isnt all that

Sounds fantastic, looks like you've got all the 'must do's'

I would second the Rockerfeller in NYC (top of the rock). The view is outstanding as it captures both Central Park & the Empire State Building.

San Fransisco - the only thing I would add (actually 2) is Lombard Street (the bendiest road in the world) which you can get to using one of the cable car things. Also when you do Alcatraz, get the audio tour. Normally I avoid these but it's really interesting.

Oh & if you like seafood - visit Bubba Gumps in either SF of NYC.

Oh & (finally I swear) Pier 39 in SF. The sealions might be there. Although the rumour was they had left

I think Ka at the MGM is the must see Cirque du Soleil show. I've recommended it to several people and they've all been blown away. Phantom at the venetian is worth a look if thats your bag.

Oooohhhh I'd love to go on that trip, especially alcatraz

Just go on Ticketmaster.com. I've used these a few times. Have seen Ice Hockey in Chicago, Baseball in Seattle & Basketball in NYC!! All using Ticketmaster.

Really simple, you just pick them up at the venue

No way will you fit all that in, golden gate bridge is rubbish and not even that big. Hollywood walk of fame is also rubbish, just a dirty street full of homeless people with some starts on the ground.

some of those homeless people also have stars on the ground!

imagine when a cop says you cant sleep there and the guy says "it's got my name on it!!

Do you have one of those teleport machines... you seem to have many places to visit for a day, with no time to travel between. (Or are you banking on a Volcation as well?)

Are you flying between cities on the east coast?

Why avoid Disney?

Kennedy Space centre is worth a visit. I like Sea World as well, I'm ashamed to say.

Try to get to Lake Tahoe, about 3 hr drive from San Francisco, you can then cut across from there to Yosemite and Mammoth Mountain, all lovely places, I got married on the shore of Lake Tahoe, wonderful place, can drive from there across Death Valley to LV, can get helicoptor trips from there over the grand canyon, also try to catch a basketball match whilst in LA, atmosphere at the staples centre is amazing, agree with previous post re stratosphere hotel/restaurant, try the rides on top too, amazingly scary, seaworld San Diego and Universal Studios in LA good too

We haven't actually booked it yet, but that sounds about right for all the places we've looked at as well. Hope you have a nice time.

I'm as yet undecided. My last figure was about £2000.

I didn't say it was a day in all the places. That wouldn't make a month now, would it?!

We're flying from Vegas to Miami, driving to Orlando, flying to Washington, getting the train to New York from there and getting the Greyhound to Toronto from New York (10 hours each way...eek)

Disney really doesn't appeal to me anymore. I went when I was 6, and that's enough! Ohhh Kennedy Space Centre, might add that one to the list. Thanks.

I will rep everyone who's been useful to me, thanks everyone!
