Seems decent enough to me. Were you due for renewal or just rang of the off chance???

My GF parents want a V+ box after I mentioned how easy it was to use etc but are not due for renewal and most certainly don't want to pay the £10 a month they tried to charge me until I complained they didn't have any HD content, then they back tracked.

how did you manage that, i told i wanted to cancel and they werent bothered

look svery good. How did you get that?
#4
told them i wanted to cancel

i have been with them since moving in in 2000 on and off!

Even if they weren't bothered by you saying you want to cancel, cancel anyway, and i guarantee within 2 weeks someone will ring up crawling, offering you alsorts to stay with them.

They really don't want to be losing anymore customers to Sky

Think like all retention centers, the best time to ring is at the end of the month, like all departments, they have targets to hit and often have a list of Buzz words, the more you say the higher the offers pyramid you can climb.

There was a big article over at MSE on this sort of thing a while back, not sure if it's still there but worth a look.

make up a nearly believable sky offer!:P
I said sky offered me:
4 mixes
evening and weekend phone
unlimited 8mb internet
sky +box

for £26 instead of recommend a friend. also mentioned they will pay the £125 for bt installation.
making a total of £26+£11(BT Line rental) £37

they offered me:
eve and weekend calls, xl tv and medium bb for £36

I said id think about it and find out when sky can install.

I phoned back 3 hrs later and insisted on cancelling, they they offered me:
Phone L - Unlimited evening and weekend UK landline calls
Broadband L - Up to 10Mb (unlimited)
XL TV Package - Over 145 digital TV channels including: Sky 1, 2, 3, News and Sky Sports News

i said i was looking for sky+ so its still not a great deal, (knowing they do v+ HD) i said and as virgin don't have a similar system ill cancel and go with sky, he then said about v+ box and said its an extra £5 a month and installation of £100, i said im not paying for an installation as i have the services already. so he droped it to £50 and removed £5 a month charge, i said im not paying £50 ill pay max £30 he went away for 5 mins and agreed to do it! :P

All good stuff....... but that's only for retentions.

New customers dont seem to get any "good" deals AFAICS.

I've thought about getting a second line (I have BT and a 24MB connection now) for a seperate feed for something. I know they give basic freebie TV channels with a phone line (which I would make use of) but dont want to pay a fortune for a basic internet connection which is all I would need. Dont want any call packages either. I never use my BT line as it is!

Annoyingly, even though my house is already connected with cable, they still want to charge an installation fee. Not on really. When I had it connected, I was told I would get a free digital line upgrade. Yes, I know my contract was terminated, but that doesnt change the fact the lines are already here and all they'd need to do is flick a switch at the junction box over the road.
