They quote a standard turn around time of 28 days I think, although mine came back within 14 days.

They'll tell you to remove the HDD before the send the courier to collect.

Good luck resolving it quickly.

BTW - they also sent me a 1 month free xbox live gold for my trouble.
#2
mine came back in 10 days.
Join the club, happens to us all eventually!
Just that you spent nearly an extra £100 on a console that Microsoft said didn't have any problems :P

If it's not reading it'll probably be the drive, mine got replaced and so did the motherboard. Waaay quieter now.

Good luck!

Damn another one...

this always puts me off buying a 360 cos every wk I hear one you lot here saying ' broken down '
#5
got mine back in 12 days
#6
MInes on its way out too. :x
#7
If you only got it a month ago dont send it to microsoft. Get a replacement from where you bought it from.
#8
I really don't understand how this can put people off getting a 360, I know a product shouldn't simply stop working...but microsoft do EVERYTHING for you, if you ask them, they will send you suitable box by courier, then pick it up from you, then drop it back in around 10 days...and this is covered for three years.
I really just don't understand how this puts anyone off, sure it's a bit of a pain, but a reason for not buying...ho hum.

I feel a Queen song coming on..... ' another bites the dust'
Another one bites the dust
Another one bites the dust
And another one gone, and another one gone
Another one bites the dust
Hey, I'm gonna get you too

Every electrical product has a 12 month warranty with the place you purchased it from. If they offer to replace it for you tell them that thats not acceptable and that it would inconvenience you too much.

Mines knackered as well. I cant get mine fixed by MS tho coz i am the 2nd owner. Il stick to my playstation in future

Dont start this again. My xbox broke and my ps3 aint. Naturally im gonna be more pleased with my playstation!

there's no worry about the downloadable content as it's all linked to your gamercard so you can just re-download it all again for free....and you are not meant to send the hard drive in with the console.
mattb_1987...you bought a second hand xbox 360, and expected it to work...?
oh and btw you can get it fixed by microsoft, just like any other manufacturers electrical appliance...they will just charge you for it.

I phoned twice and both people i spoke to said id have to pay 70 quid or somat.
#21
well why not sell seperately it on here? I'm sure you could get a fair bit back for any accessories you have, and there's always people on here looking for a faulty console itself willing to pay around £40...
you could always out the money towards mgs 3!!!

My ps3 broke within a week first time around just saying its stupid to stick with one console as you had one problem with another.

By all accounts I shouldnt have a PS2 anymore but I stuck with it and gave them a chance instead of just jumping at first sign of a problem.

Had my 360 16 months with not a single problem.

If you are biased towards the PS3 fine but dont use the fact that 360's break down more to justify to yourself why you like the PS3 more.

Most of the time people who say "oh my 360 broke so I prefer Sony" thought that in first place and just wanted some justification to back it up.

Fanboy can be loosely applied to many things.

Dont know why you are getting so worked up when I am generalising as my second post wasnt about fanboys it was about biased people.

I get worked up because people tend to be so rude on this site.

You shouldnt get worked up as my comment wasnt intended to offend or be rude but you assumed it was.

Ok then thats fine. I was just pointing out that in my experience and
my dads experience XBox 360's go belly up. There would be no point in me wasting yet more money on it.
#29
I just dont think the failure rate of the 360 can be ignored. You have a significantly higher chance of a 360 going wrong than you do a ps3.
Just like the original xbox was far more reliable than the ps2

Thats just a small price to pay for owning one of the best console experiences to date.

Theres no way id not buy another 360 if my one broke.

Fair enough if u love it but personally i just cannot bring myself to give them any more of my money. It shouldnt be breaking down and in all honestly microsoft are conning people

My 360 broke on sat so i rang microsoft and they told me as i was second owner that would be £65 please i said get lost but got them to register the 360 in my name.
I then went on xbox.com and arranged for it to be fixed on there and because mine had RROD the warranty is extended to 3 years regardless.
I thought i could smell bull...
anyway sending mine today via UPS using the free label emailed to me from microsoft
Fingers Crossed it comes back Ok and quickly

Hold on there - If it's two month old you need to be taking it back to the place you bought it from. DO NOT SEND TO MICROSOFT.

If you send to Microsoft, your likely to get a refurb unit back - This could be older or in a worse condition than the one you send for repair.

You need to take it back to the store you got it from and swap it there and then for a brand new unit. They should allow you to swap your HDD drives around.

Excellent advice here http://www.avforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=479165

Q4. What should I do in the event that my console develops a fault?

4.1 I’ve owned the console for less than 6 months: Contact your retailer. The company that sells the 360 to you has entered into a contract with you, and as part of that contract they are obliged under UK law to provide you with goods of a satisfactory quality. If you have owned the 360 for less than 6 months and it develops a fault, it is up to the retailer (not the customer) to prove the fault is not inherent; for example, if you broke it through misuse, the retailer is not liable.

It is then the retailer’s responsibility under UK law to refund, repair or replace the faulty console. They may tell you it is store policy to get the customer to contact Microsoft for support this option is open to you, but you do not have to take it, you have a right to get the store to repair or replace your console.

If you purchased the console from an online retailer, they will also offer a returns policy for faulty machines. The way you go about this varies between retailers, and details will be on their website.

However, if you wish to contact Microsoft directly, you are covered under their warranty, see details at the end of this post.
ps. I'm on my 5th Xbox360 - :x I've had this one for just over a week.

I've had an xbox 360 since launch, it red ringed on me once but it was replaced for free in about 5 working days, I brought my brother a pre-owned 360 over a year ago and his one broke last week. He has also had this replaced by Microsoft for free.
#35
I had mine since launch with no problems, don't you just hate me?

thanks for all the advice guys, so heres an update, its now gone from a rive fault to the full rrod!
when i woke up decided to try it and to my horror it red ringed, things just get worse.

as for taking it back to the shop where i bought it, i got it from woolworths and as i said before i work at woolworths and the do not take consoles back, they have them most stupid policy with them, basically you buy a console form them and have no garentee what so ever with woolworths, they just sell them on, any problems occur you have to go directly to microsoft.. yes possibly the most stupid policy in the world..

also will microsoft send me a refurbed console back? is there anything i can do if they do? as i would be pritty ****** about this as my console is only a month old...

But Woolworths aren't exempt from the law. They have to take it back whether they like it or not.

Read post #1853 on this thread http://www.avforums.com/forums/showthread.php?p=5522965&highlight=woolworths#post5522965

I telephoned the store i bought the 360 from and they told me to telephone microsoft.
I then telephoned woolworths head office and a lady gave me a reference no. and told me to take it back to the store and she would phone them and tell them to give me a new console.
I then took it back to the store and they gave me a new console without any problems.
You can get there head office no from woolworths website.
Just found the phone no for you.

Sounds like Woolworths do try it on, but they aren't above the law. Get onto head office.

If you work for them or not, it shouldn't make a difference. You have bought faulty goods from them and they are obliged to replace/repair/refund under the Sale of Goods Act.
#39
It's the policy of all shops now they say the manufacturers refuse to take them back as when I bought my PS3 I was told any faults contact Sony as they cant do anything in store.
