From what I have heard these sites are a waste of time because they do not allow people with bad experiences to leave negative feedback so your best bet to find a good builder is word of mouth

As above, only use these sites if you dont mind having your bathroom refurbed by a carpet fitter..

Im sure there are decent people registered with them, but it's full of d.i.y'ers who think they're pro's - too risky IMO

I used Mybuilder for a plasterer, he had over 250 positive feedback and he did a spot on job at a really cheap price.

A colleague at work used one of these sites and had a really bad experience. He complained to the site and they did nothing. Luckily he held back some money but the builder made his life hell and eventually the builder told him that if he gives him a positive feedback then he would take £200 less so my mate had no choice but to take the offer. This is how they get good feedback. Like Scotty says, word of mouth is best
If you are going use a tradesman from a website, ask to see his recent work and speak to the householder he worked for and then make your own decision.

Well, I had 5 quotes and he was at least 10% cheaper.

I guess it's a bit like Ebay, you only want somebody with high positive feedback.
