Hi I got a new N95 on Thursday, and to be fair i'm very impressed with it. ordered a 2gb ultra sd card from W2W so i'm waiting for that in the meantime.

If anyone knows any little Tricks n Tips for this phone, also if you know of any sites that have free ringtones and free downloadable games/applications, your posts will be appreciated.

Copy/paste is a handy function. Hold down pen key and select text using arrow left/right up/down.

Hold down menu key to switch between applications..... you'll figure more out..

You can download the sat nav maps from the O2 website (FOC), and then transfer them to your phone via the cable....

On my 3rd handset now, and this one is about the best build quality im gonna get i think. How does your feel fwibble? Any probs with it so far?
#5
feels alrite, wots been the problems with them, and thanks for the links
#6
the loose slider is the main problem with them. Makes it feel like a cheap plastic toy and not like a high-end handset. What network did you get urs on?
#7
Mine's an O2 model and the handset feels very well built. The only problem I have is constantly opening the lens cover in my pocket.
#8
is there a slight bit of give at the top and bottom when the sliders closed? (only a very very slight give)
#9
mines with orange but, screen gets greasy easily, and as far as i'm aware my hands are clean

you can upgrade it to generic firmware with the free nokia software upgrader, so the phone becomes totally unbranded, need to mess around with the product code though.

the navigation costs though, but you can plan your route and simulate with voice commands or use Free tracking which IS real time but doesnt look as good as navigation, but does the job

They say it's pre-installed onto your phone you just have to get it activated. When you runa a simulation it speaks.

yeah the gps is pre installed, after you've downloaded the maps which are free, you can plan routes were ever BUT to get real time navigation it costs, you can do a simulation of the navigation for free with voice commands but your not being tracked. AND unless your in a 3G area the gps is rubbish and even if your in a 3G area the satellites still come on and off, longest ive been connected to the satellites is about 4 mintues.

Late reply, but how do you mean mess with the product code

Your phone has a Product Code, this identifies the firmware on your phone when you scan for the update from Nokia.

When you buy a phone from o2 (and other networks) they customise the firmware and have it installed before you receive the phone.

Nokia have released their new firmware, but until it has been customised by o2 (or your service provider), you won't be able to get the update. This is because the product code identifies your handset as being an o2 handset.

I have an o2 handset and I have updated the firmware to this newer version, this was achieved by changing the product code on the handset so when it checks online for an update it doesn't identify it as an o2 handset and so it allows the update.

Before you consider upgrading your firmware you need everything in this list:
NSS (Nemesis Service Suit software - found by searching google)
Product code of your handset (found under battery on handset)
Product code for standard european n95 handset (found by searching google)
USB Data cable (Should have come with the phone)

In short you need to:
1) Install NSS and use NSS to change the product code of your handset to the european standard handset code (useing USB cable)
2) Run the nokia update and allow it to download and install new firmware (approx 115mb download)
3) Use NSS to change the product code back to the original code (incase of any future returns of your handset back to your provider.

Do NOT use any of the restore functions on the n95 to restore stuff you have backed up when you had the older firmware, backups made using the old firmware are NOT compatible with the new firmware and you will kill your phone if you do this (there is a solution if you do kill your phone, but its hassle that is so easily avoided).

I have not gone into detail about how to use NSS to change the product code, this is because i know the info is out there on message boards, so i know you can find it. If i try and tell you a step by step guide it could easily go wrong. By searching for and researching how to do the upgrade you will read other useful info that will help you that i could not possibly write up here due to the volume of it.

a good place to start researching the upgrade is here:
http://europe.nokia.com/softwareupdate

I have simply described the theory of how the upgrade works, its up to you to work it out. very simple process as long as you follow the order I have outlined. Just go step by step and it is easy.

i got this from the 3g forums and its what i used, when i did mine i found a website with more detail and it gave me a standard European product code, but when your in nss you dont want to mess around with the settings just the product code thing. i would advice searching abit for a good tutorial. its well worth it
