Need a program recommendation from hukd - part 1 (thanks)

Hi guys,

Long time no speak!

Anyways, I need to put some plans in for a house extension. Any recommendations for a program to use to draw those plans? I've tried Envisioneer Express but it only seems to be good for making a rough 3d model of what it would look like. I need to be able to show exactly how it's all made up and the exact sizes of everything etc.

Free is great, a little money for a good program is ok.

Do your best!

Thanks!!!

Could Google SketchUp do it?

Not really my area of expertise, hopefully it will send you in the right direction though.

I've had a look but it seems a little more 3d modelling than the sort of line drawing I want to make. It looks nice but I need something accurate with measurement and writing on it etc. I need to have more of a play with it tbh.

Nowhere really, don't use hukd that much anymore. I keep an eye on deals but got plenty of other stuff to be getting on with! Didn't like the changes much.

Can you not use the old way of pencil on graph type paper?

It's what we did when applying for an extension to the council (and it got approved)

Yes maybe, my neighbour is helping me as it's virtually the same as his and we are using his plans. I thought it'd be easier with a program as you should be able to just put in your measurements and it draws exactly what you need to give to the planning department. I would've thought someone would've designed such a program. ie person at home wants and extension, puts in the measurements and materials etc and the program produces exactly what the planning department want to see.

If you search on Cnet for CAD programs there are loads of free or free to try programs - a lot of them for architectural CAD use, come to think of it AutoCAD used to have a free to try version though I don't know if it still does as I use the full version
