NEED ADVICE ON SELLING CAR REG

Hello, could some kind person tell me how to go about selling my car reg.
A dealer knocked on my door and offered me £150 for it plus he would re-register my car also.
I would assume that it is worth a lot more than he was offering, but i don't know where to start.
Thank you in advance for any advice.

Is it worth anything?

Just because he 'Offered' you money, doesn't mean that it is worth something.
#2
Yes it is apparantly, a very popular nickname in England, so he said!!

hi,had the same happen to me last week,he offered me £450 for P4AUJ

What did you do?

i refused him because i was offered £690 at a petrol forecurt last year:thumbsup:

Well if he offered you £150 and DVLA fees thenit must be worth more than £250 to him.
Keep it and sell it when you sell the car, it can only go up in value if it's a cherished plate- unless you want £150.

What is the plate by the way, that way someone could place a value

Lots of advice on buying and selling. If you want a quote for your registration just email them - nothing to lose really.

Out of interest what name did the reg contain? Appreciate you dont want to reveal the full reg!

If any kind people on here have experience with reg numbers/retention docs etc. Anyone know how to change the "grantee" on a retention document, rather than the "nominee" ?

May be good time to get rid of the plate if you want to sell it then as you must have a valid MOT cert to take it off the vehicle...

doesn't sound like the dealer is that "sharp" otherwise he woulda just offered u money for the old car as he needs one for bits, maybe check the value and see if he'll do a deal as it can be a real pain dealing with dvla on these matters

Dont agree that dealing with DVLA can be a "real pain"
Have dealt with them a lot in last couple of years a nd I would say their service and speed of service is one of the best out there.

If you want to keep number for what ever reason then it will cost you £105.
It is £80 for new no. for car and £25 every year to keep your cherished number on a retention if not put on to another car,
Once you put it onto another car it will cost you £80 and then no further cost.
And the dvla will help you through the proccess
The form you need is a V317 which can be downloaded on line:thumbsup:

from the dvla site:-

How do I sell my registration?
If you want to sell your registration we suggest you approach a private dealer or advertise the registration for sale yourself. DVLA's sales scheme is confined to selling it's own previously unissued registrations. We do not endorse or recommend any particular individual or company.
How do I transfer my registration mark from one vehicle to another?
To transfer a registration mark from one vehicle to another you will need to complete a V317 - Transfering a Vehicle Registration Number application form. The cost of transfer is £80.

How can I put my registration on hold when I decide to sell my car ?
You will need to complete a V778/1 - Retention of a Vehicle Registration Number application form. The cost to retain a registration number is £105.

One good thing being... you only ever have to pay the £80 assignment fee once.
