Castle is nice, but expensive. Camera obscura is good too, which is real close to the castle. The national museum of scotland is excellent as is the childhood museum!

The Grassmarket are is very good for bars/bistro etc

Thanks Shanecr and Moob. Do you think it worth to get Edinburgh or British heritage Pass ?

Princes Street gardens underneath the castle for a picnic, walk down the high Street(Royal Mile). About 5 museums. All free
Plenty bars etc for meals. Edinburgh dungeon, There are also tours on open top buses, scary tours at night.

Dunno if you are taking kids, but when we were there a couple of years back they weren't allowed in any of the bars (well not that we could find!)

The zoo's ok too that hasn't been mentioned yet

if you were only in edinburgh for the day, you would find it difficult to enjoy the zoo as well as much else as it can take a whole afternoon to go round.

Thanks yes we are taking kids and that is very disappointing when pubs and bars do not allow toddlers in a daytime.

Long drive for you,I wouldn't mind going to the zoo myself there, not been to Edinburgh since I was a child so can't advise anything else.

If taking kids you gotta visit Dynamic Earth !!

which is also right next to Arthur's Seat if u want to see awsome views of the city :

most pubs during the day are child friendly im sure. there are a couple in ocean terminal that are nice, plus the Britannia yacht is there, which is worth a look round if you have the money for it.

Thanks very much to all! We will try to visit as much places as we can.

I done medical research in Edinburgh whilst on leave from the army. Had a blinding night out afterwards. Then when I joined BT I done 2 weeks training in Edinburgh and stayed in the grassmarket again cracking nights. The Pubic triangle
