Have you got any security on the router (WEP, WPA ?).

Is the laptop set up to use the same ?

Try turning the security off on the router and see if it works then

1. Have you enabled WEP security?
2. If you have please ensure you have got the password right - it is case sensitive
3. Have you enabled mac security on the router - if you have you will need t oadd in your laptops details (check in control panel)

point one is the favourite!

Error message that comes up:

Windows is unable to connect to the selected network. The network may no longer be in range. Please refresh list of available networks, and try to connect again.

Stupid thing wont let me get to the password bit and the other laptops in the house connect fine. However they're running Vista and this is on XP. I do have security and i believe it is WPA. Could this be the problem?

OS should be ok

1. how far from the router are you, closer or nearer than the ones connected?
2. Are you using built in xp wireless or external usb like netgear?

really stupid one, but have you made sure wireless is "enabled" on the laptop. On mine, its a button on the front of the laptop, just underneath the mouse pad!
