I have just bought and tried out a New LG Portable Super Multi Drive GP08 Lite.
Its the CD/DVD external rom.

We downloaded all the software, its all going good, Plays CDs instantly and perfectly, but when I put in a DVD it plays the DVDs great but without sound.

Its playing the DVD on PowerDVD, so I tried it via Windows media player and once again its playing the film but without sound.

Does anyone know where we have gone wrong please?

[FONT=Verdana]Please can you confirm what cables came bundled with it and also how many USB cable connections are you using to connect it up to your computer.

Cheers, Scotty Boy!

I had exactly the same problem, no sound when using PowerDVD, however when using Windows Media Centre there is sound.

I also get this message...............................

"This version of PowerDVD does not support Dolby Digital audio.By upgrading now you can enjoy Multichannel Dolby Digital audio.
Enjoy the full-feature of PowerDVD for Blu-ray and DVD movies
Enjoy high-definition DTS and Dolby Digital home theater audio
Watch Blu-ray Discs and enjoy interactive features
Play a broad range of video formats including AVCHD, MPEG-4 AVC H.264, DivX, VC-1 and AVCREC
Enjoy the best movie playback quality with complete support for TrueTheater technology "

[FONT=Verdana]It is indeed - I've downloaded from there in past but if your worried I can hunt out the link to it on the Filehippo website - just give me two ticks.

Edit - Okay the home cinema option doesn't show up on Filehippo anymore (just the Media Player Classic) but the original link I've provided is safe, as I've used it on a couple of my computers without any problems.

no its fine as long as i know some one has used it and it didnt ****** it up for them lol

Oo just tried it again before downloading anything and his DVD father ted worked, hubby said it may be because its series and not a film that needs dolby digital sound which we get a pop up saying this does not support Dolby sigital audio.

Ok just tried Raging bull and no sounds lol

I will try uploading that software and then try raging bull again a sec :) BRB

When the film is on select the stereo stream rather than the Dolby Digital 5.1 stream. Should work fine then.

its going back lol!! Tescos can have a £50 machine that wont play sound on a DVD, Scotty boy that site worked for us perfect, but it was a long winded way of getting it up on my PC because of the DVD Rom kept opening up PowerDVD even though we took it off the machine :S

We are so dull on this stuff, so getting rid of the thing and getting him a external Hard Drive to just drag his films onto lol

yeah, take it back! £50 for just an external dvd reader is extortionate!

[FONT=Verdana]You'll still need to use a computer equipped with a DVD drive to backup a movie onto an external hard disk I'm afraid.

and you wont be able to just drag films from an original film disk to an external drive as they are copyright protected. You need to crack the copyright too (see dvdshrink in google)
