Hi I am getting a new laptop and don't know much about them. I have found 2 which seem good but don't know which is best or much about them.

The first one is a HP DV9823EA from PC World:
AMD Turion 64x2 TL60
Processor speed 2.00 GHz
memory 3072 MB
Memory Type DDR2 RAM
Hard Drive 160 GB
Optical Drives LightScribe Super Multi DVD
Screen Size/Type 17" Brightview
Graphics Card Type NVIDIA GeForce 7150M
Graphics Memory 256mb MB
Sound Type 3D Sound Blaster Pro
Battery Type 8 Cell Lithium-ion

The second one is a dell studio 15 from dell:
Intel® Core 2 Duo Processor T5750 (2.0 GHz, 667 MHz FSB, 2 MB L2 Cache)
LCD 15.4" Wide Screen WXGA (1280 x 800) Display with TrueLife
MEMORY 3072MB 667MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM [1x2048+1x1024]
HARD DRIVE 250GB (5400RPM) SATA Hard Drive
OPTICAL DRIVE Fixed Internal 8X DVD+/-RW Slot Load Drive including Software
Primary 6-cell 56 WHr Lithium Ion battery

Could anyone please tell me which laptop is best and what use the laptops are best suited for. Thanks

One laptop has a 17" screen and the other a 15.4" screen.

So while the 17" will obviously be larger and provide more dekstop, it will also be a larger and heavier laptop and therefore more effort to lug around.

So your first decision should be, is this laptop going to stay on the same desk most of the time, in which case the 17" would be better, or am I going to carry it round with me a lot, in which case the 15.4" would be better.

Once you have decided to go for a 17" OR a 15.4" THEN you can start looking at what laptops to chose from.

You also need to indicate to us what you plan to do with it: just office tasks (email, surfing), or playing music and watching films, or playing games and so on.

The tasks you plan to do on the computer define the type (size, weight, battery life etc) to go for.
get the hp, the recovery console on them is really handy if you end up bugging up your pc
Right thanks alot.
I will be using the laptop for doing multiple tasks (e.g school work, internet ect) at the same time. I will also want to watch dvd's and play games like the sims.
