Hi guys n girls
Here is the prob, I have a bt home wireless hub down stairs but my games consoles ie ps3/360 are upstairs in which I cant get any signal on, they are both wireless but the signal must be to far away, I have a phone socket in the room? I was looking at these wireless gaming routers on ebay but are they any good? an how do they work? what is my best option as I would really like to get these consoles up and running but obviously when I am online I dont want it to interfear with anyone using the net downstairs
what can i do to resolve this?
Many thanks in advance

Make sure your security is set to WEP if you can as this gives better coverage otherwise you need to extend your network which is painful I had the same problem due to the walls in my house so used the netgear extenders

It looks like you can either get a Wireless Bridge which is another router which you would place inbetween the router and the consoles or a powerline adaptor and connect the consoles via network cable.

I have a WGE111 and it's excellent! I also run a couple of Belkin access points on DD-WRT (an open source free firmware) and they work really well too...

I would try moving the router closer if possible first then get a wireless game adaptor (or bridge - they're exactly the same thing) with an aerial if it doesn't work! Good luck :)

I had the same problem (as Robotochan will tell you) and powerline adapters sorted it out 100%

Could probably copy and paste that thread here :-D

Wireless is sometimes a nightmare to get working right, my brothers car interfered with the wireless in the house so I haven't been able to use it till now as he sold it. I'm lucky that my house is made out of thin plasterboard walls as I can get a usable wireless signal within a range of about 20m in and direction.

But anyway... your best bet I think is to get powerline adapters, a lot less problems with signal and interference

it doesnt have to be wireless as long as i can go online with them, was gonna try just plugging in a gaming router in the phoneline in the room and connect the consoles via ethernet, that any good? I am really rubbish when it comes to pc knowledge

Before buying additional equipment I think you should first check if you existing equipment is okay. Try plugging your xbox directly to the router with the network cable. If you can get that working, the next step is to try using the xbox wirelessly in the same room, if that works but you move it upstairs and it still doesn't work then you possibly have a signal strength problem..............

well if you get powerlines, basically plug 1 next to router....coneect ethernet between the 2

Then plug other upstairs...then connect ethernet to PS3/360
You can get a hub that will allow both to be connected at same time
I think they work especially with the hub. The ones I have the instructions are specific to the home hub (which I don't have) so don't think there's much problem

powerlines? can i get them from ebay or online? never heard of them? so they just plug in? sounds great to me, nothing else just plug an play? do they just boost your signal, I have a very large old house with very thick walls so thats why i get signal problems
banned#13
they don'tr boost it at all....but they carry it from 1 room to another....
I had same problem as you 360 upstairs...router downstairs....old house...lots of interference

They use your power sockets to carry the signal.... only thing that worked for me
I got Comtrend ones www.comtrend.com can't remember model number but yeah you can get them on ebay

Just had a look at Ebay, the ones I have are like: 230253769777
But you want 2 so don't go for that one but just so you know. Try and get ones that have powerpoints built in if you can, wish I had

ebay, PC World, etc....
I got mine off here actually off a lovely user who was very genuine, bearing in mind I knew nothing about them...
There are different sppeds as well mate, I have 200Mbps...but you may be able to use 85Mbps...not too sure if you'd see much difference...depends on connection
#18
do you just buy 2 or do they come in packs? obviously one that plugs into the hub and the other upstairs, can i plug both 360 and ps3 into one powerline or is their only one ethernet connection per powerline? how much should i pay to avoid being ripped off
banned#19
Should come in a pack....
you can get ones that only have 1 but don't know how they work (saw it in PC world).
I paid £45 (delivered) for 200mbps version...I've been told thats a good price...but not 100% to be honest...

I'd say about £50 for a pair of 200mbps but could be wrong. Best thing to do is have a look at PC World and get some prices first then have a look on ebay:
