think thats for statutory maternity pay which involves the employer but im sure you can still get a different sort of maternity pay (maternity allowence) i think it might be!

congrats hun, think you need to be at the company from around the baby was concived to get smp. I had to apply for maternity allowance which worked out a lot more in the end anyway, as i could submit any 10 payslips i think it was so i gave them the ones one the weeks that i earnt the most!

Thanks leilahfun, baby was conceived after i got offered the job, so waiting to see if on my offer letter/contract it will have that date or the one of when i actually start properly (after my crb comes back)

I did just see about Maternity allowance so at least i will get that, but to be honest im more concerned if i tell them they wont let me start work as its in healthcare and quite strenuous work they might see me as a liability?

anyhow thanks for replying x

I'm sure they can't stop you from starting the job just because your pregnant, as if you was already in the job they wouldn't stop you from working maybe just change the duties that you can do? I know my workplace had to carryout a risk assessment on me, i'm in a physical job where i'm on my feet often for over 6 hours with no break but it didn't really make any difference in the end.

All the best for your pregnancy. x

i believe if you got it in writing they can not retract it unless there is no other job for you to do during your state of pregnancy (you stated it is was a physical job) - they may suddenly no longer have a job available and so long as they do not employ someone to do the job you were initially employed to do they can retract the offer (even though it is obvious that it is because you are pregnant so long as they do not employ anyone else it will be hard for you to prove it was because of the pregnancy. I believe you would become entitled to marenity allowance not maternity pay

you HAVE to tell them as they have to do a risk assesment

you dont have to tell them until 15 weeks before the baby is due x

Statutory Maternity Pay (SMP)
You can get Statutory Maternity Pay (SMP) for up to 39 weeks, as long as you meet the conditions.
To qualify for Statutory Maternity Pay you must have been:
employed by the same employer continuously (some breaks do not interrupt continuous employment) for at least 26 weeks into the 15th week before the week your baby is due
earning an average of at least £95 a week (before tax)
To claim Statutory Maternity Pay you must tell your employer at least 28 days before the date you want to start your Statutory Maternity Pay. Your employer may need you to tell them in writing.
