Need help to connect Xbox to PC monitor...again!

Hi, posted a few days ago and got what I thought was the answer to the above question. Well. after ordering an HDMI to DVI cable, it turned out that because my son's monitor did not support or wasn't compliant with HDCP, it wouldn't work. So, onto round 2. I have not long returned home after a visit to Game to purchase a VGA cable to connect. Now, although we don't have the 3.5mm audio jack conversion yet, I said to my son how about we just connect it all up - never mind there is no sound, let's just see if we get a picture. All connected up, but again nothing. The pc monitor just sits there with it's amber standby light on. I am puzzled.
Just to recap, there is a white DVI port and a blue VGA port in the monitor and the standard speaker jack. What could be the problem? Would be very grateful if someone could solve the mystery, cos it's driving me crazy (to put it politely!!)
Thanks in advance, Liz

Sorry, but what do you mean exactly?

mnoitors can usually be set to use a particular port eg dvi or vga, perhasp after the failed dvi hook up you have left your monitor set to dvi? if so change it back to vga, unplug any other devices ie TV and reset xbox, should auto detect.

In the xbox settings menu there is an option to alter the type of hd output 720 1080 etc,,
Maybe needs to be set to a certain one for the monitor to work? Just a guess.:whistling:

Ok, so have just returned from shopping ... again, and now have a small adapter that will conver the 2 phono cables (red and white) into a 3.5mm jack for the speakers in the back of the monitor. I went upstairs to my son's room and have fitted all of the bits now - vga cable, etc. and 'hey presto' one happy chappy. Before connecting, we set resolution under console settings to 420/480 whatever it is. Thanks everyone. Couldn't believe that this adapter wasn't included in the original package I bought - I got this one from Maplins in case anyone else has same problem - £2.79. Hope that helps! Thanks again, Liz
