Need help with my stupid laptop

Anyone any insight or similar issues.

Left for meeting last friday laptop fully working. Last thing I did on laptop before leaving was install new software for my new Livescribe Pulse Pen I bought. Installed okay, played wih pen for 10 mins then shut down andpacked everything up. Now my laptop is worth 1000's purely on spec and its contents so I look after it as if it was my 6 month old son.

Now come monday had to fly to Dublin, as laptop was in main bag it went with scummy baggage handlers and not on board. Went to open on tuesday and no luck.

Wouldnt boot just kept looping round and round boot up screen. This laptop was dual booted, Win 7 Ultimate and Windows Server 2008 R2 .

No luck booting into either. Tried to use startup repair just kept going straight back onto boot options screen. Tried using DVD and couldnt find any OS so couldnt repair. Took a look at MBR and fixed that, default boot Win 2008. Still no luck. Tried safe mode, but could get past classpnp.sys.

Secondly fixed partitions if needed it, 1st Win 7 then Win 2008. Managed to then get these to show up in My Computer in XP when using USB Sata connection. Can view files in both partitions, doesnt look like an issue. Tried booting up again, still nothing, brief blue screen but not enough time to view error code.

Ran full repair scan using MS software on another machine, took 4 days to complete. But guess what nothing.

MBR fixed, partition okay, file allocation tables perfect.

Only thing can think of is what I did last and that was install livescribe software but that was only on Win 7 and not Windows 2008 which doesnt work either.

This laptop has projects on it worth considerable money and software that takes a long time to setup.

My question as not hardware orientated as much as should be. If I run a ghost image app on this drive to my new TB drive will the problem be mirrored.

And if so any ideas how to locate the problem. I have another drive in it at the moment with Win 7 installed and no issues so laptop is A OK.

I can view all files if I connect old HDD to this machine via USB so file retrieval is fine but the preconfigured software, settings, networking, security on there plus databases and reporting is quite a time consuming process not to mention I dont have some of the server details to hand to reform the connecitons I need. And there is an in progress Sharepoint Web App and Site on there which is not backed up and cant retrieve this data manually, I need to be able to log in.

Anyone any ideas.

Been quoted £179 for a GUARANTEED hard drive repair but no chance of that especially at a price like that.

have you checked the cable to your hard drive? (just a suggestion??) as if it was rough handled it's possible it got knocked out of place
#2
have you tried the windows 7 recovery disc?

Yeah checked that. If I plug into USB sata connector to other machine, the hard drive is intact seems fine. Plug back into Laptop starts to boot but then nothing. Issue I have as well is cant get it into safe mode or to give me a command prompt. If I could get to that point I could get better idea but no safe mode, no boot and no command prompt. Startup repair not functioning and no recent backup to revert back to (I took my backup server offline last month to fiddle with and not bothered to turn it back on)

I could take it into work but not an option as life wont be worth living if I am found out that I dont have a backup of all the data. Blagging it now but project end date looming (I used to on 8GB flash drive but I washed it in the machine).

Its the long days and nights, coupled with no sleep and no relaxation and too much work that I blame for all of this and not forgetting the noisy, whinging kids.

Tried and no joy, cant locate any OS on my hard drive even though they are there. MBR is fine so dont understand. Ran 3rd Party MBR Fix and also MS one when connected via USB but still no luck.

Still having trouble with my Win 2008 partition so created ghost image and deleted. This only had my databases on it so they should be fine, have got previous months backups so cant get around that and all projects were stored directly on root drive so restoring image and placing folders in exact same place should work on any machine with the software installed.

Sharepoint is my issue as 2010 and new app was running on my Win 7 partition that I cant get into.

Just out of curiosity got a spare 1TB 2.5" drive, if I did install Win 7 on this an copy over and replace files leave bootmanager as is what do you reckon chances are problem is copied over.

If lower possibility then can try it but just dont have enough spare time to do it on a whim

Yes, rub it in. Everything was till month ago but had issues with backup server so took it offline, didnt expect anything major to go wrong in the interim, but it did. So guess paying the price now aren't I !!!!!!

not rubbing it in at all mate. I'm sure you now realise the importance of backing up valuable data.

Didnt mean it to sound that way. I have always been extremely cautious but too much work load and pressure at the moment and let things slip, its just sods law I guess.

Well hopefully come end of month will have my new data server up and running so wont happen again.

Just got to get around this problem first. One solution I do have is to run full backup DVDs I have from 1st July but the only issue is this is just data and nothing else. So still looking at an interim solution for software.

Just cannot for the life of me figure out what the problem is. It just doesnt make sense.

Well enough was enough, managed to get into system but ended up with complete HDD failure or almost. I/O erros, read, write failures and shockingly slow performance issues. Guess a complete thorough repair should fix it but not ideal for working OS HDD just as storage for random stuff. Thats what you get putting your trust in Western Digital. But it was replaced today coutesy of my employer with an 250GB SSD so come tomorrow back in business and only on the grounds that new SSD should make me work faster to catch up.

Word of warning to all, please always remeber to make regular backups of your work or data, this is one mistake I wont forget again.

And not sure on this one but anyone upgraded to SSD, used macrium software to create image but not yet copied image into new drive.

Anyhow is SSD install fails and system wont boot up with original Os then will be getting rid of the potential huge black 18" plastic paper weight for desktop. though I must be careful cause wouldnt want to make aScottishBloke think that I trade in plastic now would I.

Petty isnt it when people get jealous just cause you possibly have more things than they do. That what happens when you get up of you backside and work and earn a living. Wish I was jock and sat at home all day wondering ....what if?
