I can manage to solve desktop problems but when it comes to laptops i am a noob.

I have a Toshibe Satellite L300 laptop. When it boots up it goes to the windows recovery window where i can choose from either choose from launching startup repair or start windows normally.

It doesn't matter which one i choose it just goes to a blank screen. I've tried booting into safe mode and still get a blank screen.

To me it seems that when trying to access the hard drive it fails and thus the hard drive has gone bad. Before i go and buy another hard drive i just want a second opinion.

mine did this and when opened it turns out there was a loose screw and the hard drive wasnt sitting properly so wouldnt boot up once screw was back and tightened up it was fine, this might not be the case but thats what happened to mine hope you get it sorted :)

I just took the hard drive out and put it back but does the same thing. Thanks for the advice tho.

I doesn't sound like the hard drive. It's most likely a conflict with drivers or that the Windows didn't close properly.

If you can get into the bios, it might be an idea to see if your hard drive is visible which should hopefully rule out a problem there.

Sounds like one of the windows System 32 file is corrupt.

You need to repair the problem, just put the Windows XP cd in and press "R" then type in CHKDSK

Will update in a bit

i can't do that either as i said when i try to do anything past the bios i just get a blank screen as it seems to do that when it tries to access the hard drive which led me to believe the hard drive may be bad
Trying a dell vista home basic disc just to see what happens

Edit* Just get a blank screen when trying to do that also......When i press any key to boot from disc i see the windows vista logo and the progress bar at bottom of screen....after the goes i get blank screen....so again leads me to hard drive and when ever something tries to acess it i get a blank screen
