Nephew has been quoted £150 for a full service & MOT this includes all spares(I presume oil, sparkplugs, coolant etc). His father and I both renew our cars every two to three years, service is included and no MOT needed therefore we have no Idea on price but taking our local kwick fit/ arnold clark I would presume about £100 - £120 can anyone provide an average price?
Sorry should have said it is a 1998 fiat brave 1,4

It can also vary depending on the car...I'm looking at about £180 just for my service this year...

this is a 10 year old car mot's round us are £45 i should imagine a 1.4 car service oil, filters, ect should cost no more than £80............you might be better off looking for a mobile mechanic for that age car, getting the parts yourself ( not halfords there more than dealer parts ) then do the MOT i have a mechanic who services all my cars and hes no were near that price...........

where are you based as there is a really good shop in west london and normally very cheap and does a fantastic job.

Think yourself lucky I have a major service booked next week, with the dreaded cambelt change, and a new clutch required, main dealer wanted £1,500, Independent wanted £1,200 but didnt inspire confidence, so posted a thread on the relevant forum, and found a specialised place that will do the lot for £989 still there goes my new telly budget.

£25 at my usual garage in Blackburn for MOT:thumbsup:
Service around £120

for goodness sake its just the cost of two loaves of bread, get a grip and pay up lol !

Its £90 for a service and £40 for an MOT where I am (NW). £150 doesn't sound unreasonable depending on where you are.

Sounds cheap to me! Wished my MOT and service was going to be £150!

Me and the OH have taken ours to Nationwide Autos for the last few years and used Tesco Clubcard deals for the whole bill. If you collect ckubcard points it's a great saving - effectively a free MOT and Service each year. Some people have bad experiences with Nationwide Autos - but they have always been fine with us.
Usually a quarter's points covers each car, so we still have 2 quarter's worth to spend on us!

I take my car to a small independent garage(have been using them for 12 years)

Currently an MOT is £40 and full service is £75,so quite a bit cheaper than what you've been quoted, but certainly not an over the top quote by any means.
The most important thing is that they do a good, reliable job, hence why I've been using the same guy for so long!:)

Standard price for an MOT is £45 and that comes from VOSA

Service can vary but generally about £90-£100 (for a full service) so £150 is about right really
