Need suggestions regarding my course starting tomorrow please.....

I have a 4 day course in Derby starting tomorrow morning, the problem is-I cant concentrate for any longer than 5 minutes before my mind starts wandering. I am worried that I wont take anything in and fail the exam on Thursday.
The course has cost my company a lot of money bearing in mind that I will be staying in a niceish hotel with all my expenses paid and I am worried that I could cock it all up.
Any suggestions would be appreciated

Maybe you could take a dictaphone/camcorder, record the lecture and then listen/watch it again at night.

fine idea, have actually contemplated that idea but left it a bit late now:?

take paper and pen and make notes.

Any reason why you can't concentrate for longer than that?

not really, just get bored very easy and start to think about nice things:thumbsup:

Don't worry else you won't take anything in as the anxiety will pre-occupy you. Just focus and do it for the team. :w00t:

Sounds silly but just being well hydrated can increase your levels of concentration.

Note taking will keep you busy, and your mind from wandering off too much too. It will also help you revise for the exam. Dont rely on just the materials they give you.

Be awake - if you go into a classroom enviroment feeling sluggish and half asleep already, its not a situation thats likely to improve. Wake up early, excercise, make sure youve had your weetabix (:)) and make sure your energised and ready to go when the class starts.

Good luck!

Failing all else...........take some matches, set fire to the waste paper basket on the sly and then save the day with a extinguisher. Then proceed to collapse with shock and go home ill and a hero and worry about it another day. :-D

I'm much the same lol

Take notes as I suggested and plenty of breaks. When you do get a break, get up, walk around, go loo, get a drink, all these things will help to refresh your body.

Also, join in and interact as much as possible, don't be afraid to get something wrong... just joining in will help you remember and take in what you are learning.

Hopefully, yes. It will give me more stability in my job-bearing in mind I am 43 and my head is almost full up, cant take too much more in:?

Make sure you're fully hydrated.

When you are dehydrated your attention and concentration can decrease by 13% and short term memory by 7%. Drinking 6-8 glasses a day helps to improve your concentration.

+1 for taking notes though, as long as you are interested enough to go through them afterwards:thumbsup:

Well, I've never had anyone in my class go to sleep on me yet! :giggle:

As Clarity says - join in...

The more you can participate the more likely you will pick things up. And if the course is miles away from where you live, and you dont know the people there... then who cares if you get a few wrong, at least you tried. Everyone there will be in the same boat.

From experience here: make use of the hotels gym rather than the bar.... you will only end up regretting it when you attend a compulsary class with a hangover.

skusey ole chap ole friend, you lack confidence, its not that you cant do it because if you put your mind too it you can, you company has faith in you thus sending you out on the course. ignore all advice from other posters and listen to me.

YOU CAN DO IT! you need to be confident, ask your self these questions

"are you strong enough to pass the test on thusday?"
"are you motivated enough to pass the test on thusday"
"DO YOU WANT IT"?

if you answered no to any one of them questions, you have already failed sir. These are the questions that the Roger fedz, the Tiger Woods ask them selfs before judgement day, now your time has come son, are you gonna man up or be a beta male n cry to mommy?

good luck

all these sort of courses almost guarantee you pass anyway, especialy as they get paid by your company, and if they dont pass you they think they wont get any more buissness from your place of work, been on loads of courses in my life time and there all the same, last course i went on i even had the instructor telling me the answers if i did not know them while i was being tested.

I could take up Tennis tomorrow and believe that If I trained as long as most pros, I could beat them (serious), you need that mentality for life, else you will fail.
