Son going backpacking next Feb, starting in Rio. He has saved all the money himself from his summer job.

Relative rang tonight to say airport tax going up tonight from midnight.....would save about £50 if booked tonight. He is hopless but I am keen to get this booked.

Any one know any good long haul sites that might be suitable please

For the sake of 50 quid i wouldnt be too hasty.

How do you know that the flight won't be £51 cheaper if you book tomorrow?

The tax increase annouced recently, starts at midnight tonight. Not much on short haul but much more money on long haul

The way I understand it, you will need to pay the increased tax regardless of when you book the ticket...

"The tax changes are irrespective of when the ticket was booked - if travel was booked for after 1 Nov a higher tax rate will be charged."

We have already booked and paid in full for our flights to the USA next year.........will we now have to pay more?

Sadly, I think you might. I'm sure there were loads of complaints last time when airport tax increased as people who had already booked tickets had to pay more.

Actually, you may be OK...

"Every passenger travelling from 1 November onwards will have to pay the charge - but because the tax hike has been expected for some time, airlines anticipated the extra cost and passengers who have already booked their tickets for travel after this date paid the charge in their ticket price."

It appears confusing. Does it apply only to tickets booked after Nov 1, or any travel after Nov 1 ??

I called my booking agent this morning at 8am!! She told me I wont get charged anymore - its for new flights booked from today that will get hit with these extra charges

Need to buy a return flight to Singapore.
Checked the price last night and it was about £495, checked this morning and it's the same price.
I guess it doesn't affect prices as much? Or the websites just haven't updated it yet?

bossyboots - I expect the extra tax was already incorporated into the price of your ticket when you bought it.

Yeah probably.

Still, the government are just robbing bar stewards. They just want to cream off some more cash and it only hurts the lower class people, not the Wayne "Shrek" Rooney's of the world.

I was hoping i could find a flight for less than £495. Well i can but not a good airline (The £495 is Air France, which are not bad but quite average)
The ones that are cheaper are all Air Asia (The Ryanair of the East) or some other rubbish one like Saudi Arabian airlines.
