  What sort of jacket? I've got a down jacket which is really warm but then packs down to about the size of a large apple (or whatever) and comes with its own stuff sack. It's really useful. Have a look in Millets/Blacks or somewhere they might have something similar.

  Ahhh people who go to gigs early and queue. Is it that important to be at the front???
  
  What I used to do was arrive a few minutes before support came on, hang back while support was on. I'd make my way to the back of the "front" huddle (usually about 20 people deep) with ease while they're setting up for the main band. Then when the main act come on there is usually a surge as they begin to play their opening song, this is where you let yourself get carried to the front.
  
  I've never failed to get to the front barrier by the end of the first song. Usually at this point all those girls who got there first to be at the barrier are being helped over the barrier so they can stop being crushed. They never learn...

  never understood the point in getting to the front i stay in the boozer until 5mins before the main band unless the support is half decent as someone else said tie your jacket round your waste it will only end up covered in pee and drink anyway, be thankful for the smoking ban or fag burns would be added into the equation

  Take an old jacket, one that you can almost throw away. Get some old ones from charity shops just for this purpose.
