I hope this is not an inappropriate post for this forum. I am not a phone wiz but people here seem to have the skill and equipment I'm looking for.

I need to find a shop or person in around Manchester who can unlock my Nokia E71. It was bought unlocked (no specific carrier) but started acting erratically. It kept asking for lock code. (see http://yfrog.com/0tlockzj)

Any suggestions (other than "use it as a paperweight") would be gratefully accepted. I realize it will need a hardware-based procedure. In particular, I'd like to find someone today who might help.

Thanks in advance.

Is a code set on the SIM?

Have you tried VF default codes? 12345

Thats the phones lock code its requesting rather than network try 12345 (nokia default)

If its been changed its likely you need to go to a Nokia repair centre with prrof of ownership to get it reset.

Can I just take it to the local mobile shop and get it unlocked? I got this phone from eBay few months ago. I'm not sure how to bring some kind of proof of ownership.

yup, that code locks it to the sim that was in it when the code was set. Flashing the phone etc doesnt remove it.
