Neighbour scratched my car -what to do

I have just noticed that the rear passenger door of my car has some scratches on it, the marks seem to be done by the door of another car adjacent to mine - which I am sure has been from the neighbour's car. I live in a block of flats and park in the residential parking. What should I do now? It might have been a few days or probably couple of weeks since it happened and i have noticed it late. Should I just keep mum as nothing can be proved now?

you cant prove anything am afraid and would cause bother if u went asking ur neighbour if he done it!! maybe if u see them ask them if they saw anyone do it and watch their reaction.............but doubt they will admit to it - if indeed was them

difficult to prove, may just end up upsetting them and it may not have been them in the first place

Thanks everyone. I plan to let him know anyway, so that he or his wife do not end up repeating it again.

How do you know it was them though? Unfortunately without proof there isn't much you can do.

If you want to speak to them about it maybe just drop it in conversation that someone has scratched your car door and have they noticed anything / seen anyone do it, etc - rather than asking them straight out if it was them as that may just cause trouble.

It's him I am sure as he parks his car facing in opposite direction as compared to mine and his front passanger side door opens towards the rear door of my car and that is where the marks are. Also I have not driven mine car for couple of weeks now as the battery requires attention, so it can't be anyone else.

I agree, its probably best the op scratches all the cars in the vacinity at least that way he has a greater chance of justice

Good idea.

As for the scratches, depending how deep they are you may be able to get rid of the them by using some light sht swirl remover. (products such as Poorboys SSR1)

Still, could a visitor or someone have parked in that space whilst your neighbours were out and scratched the door? Unless you actually saw them do it or someone else saw them do it, there isn't much you can do as you don't have proof. I completely understand what your saying though and in all likeliness, it may have been your neighbour but without proof you can't do anything.

Like I said, just drop it in conversation and see what is said.

Thanks for the advice, I will 'try' and let him know. It is important to do this, atleast he will be careful in future.

Have you driven your car off the drive and parked it anywhere else in the last few months?

Only once...

Purchased the car only two months back. Have been taking driving lessons since then. Have parked it only once away from my home at the local retail park.
