I came across this yesterday and tried it out and it does indeed work.

What is it?

Its a NES, SNES, Gameboy, GBA and Genesis/Megadrive Emulator for Xbox one.

How does it work?

By uploading Roms to your one drive account you can then access them through the Edge browser on your Xbox one.

Do you have a step by step guide?

Sure do! This is taken from reddit:

1: DL Roms and upload them to your onedrive account

2: on your X1 go to the Edge and open the URL bar and type nesbox.itch.io/x1

3: opens a page (recommended to make it your home page if you don't surf the web on your xbox like me)

4: Click start and switch controls to the webpage controls

5: click add rom from onedrive

6: Select the unpacked Rom files you want (It sounds like they want them to end in .SMC (might have to manually change that))

7: Might give you an error but click ok. refresh the page (if the roms dont auto load up on the list)

8: Click Full Screen

9: Click Start and change controls back to the Game controls

What's the URL for Edge?

https://nesbox.itch.io/x1

What extensions will it work with?

The emulator supports files with the following extensions:

.smc (Super Nintendo)
.nes (NES)
.gba (Game Boy Advance)
.gbc (Game Boy Color)
.gb (Game Boy)
.gen (Sega Genesis)
.bin (Sega Genesis)
.smd (sega Genesis)

If your ROM is a zip file, the ROM file with one of these extensions will be found within the .zip (or .7z or .rar or whatever). Unzip and move to your one drive.

Do not rename the ROM extension.

Getting it all working wasn't too hard just remember to unpack the Roms or you won't find them and use the same login for one drive as you do on Xbox one. Any problems ask in the comments and I'll try to help :)

Just want to add that although emulation isn't seen as naughty ROMs are a very grey area. If we can all avoid posting ROM links then that would be great ( they're pretty easy to find anyway).

Yes, and on an entirely unrelated note I've heard there are lots of Emus in Paradise *cough cough*

Who would have thought it, very *cough cough* off topic but thanks for the info.

How 'safe' are these to use? No chance of downloading anything malicious? It's my daughter's Xbox One, but I'd risk her wrath for a chance to relive the halcyon years playing Super Probotector (Contra III)!

It is only a "grey [or gray!] area" for those that choose to ignore the existing copyright terms on the original file (including, but not limited to, the source code, the graphical assets, &/or incidental music/audio output).

If the copyright has elapsed, or the software has passed into the public domain as "freeware", or as "abandonware", then the ROM images can be copied, but not distributed for (financial, or other) gain. In the latter two cases, copyright may still exist, but the owner of the software may not be tracking &/or enforcing copyright violations.

The Xbox is a closed system you can't download anything malicious off the browser or App Store

No problems for me so far and seems to work perfectly for NES and SNES but not so good with GBA.

do i dl the roms on another device and transfer to xbox?
#10
can roms be dl through the i explorer on xbox1?
#11
I downloaded and transferred ROMs from my phone to one drive app, but you could just as easily use a laptop or desktop. I don't believe you will be able to do it through the Xbox one alone.

i just put some roms in a new folder i made on one drive, it doesnt see all my folders though. any idea why?

EDIT : nvm fixed it, says my pw was wrong, updated it to my newest one and it synced

Surely this method gives the website open access to the files on your Onedrive account?
The XBox may be unaffected but it sounds like a potential backdoor security threat to me...
