Netgear DG834PN + Vista Firewall

I have a Netgear DG834PN and have Vista Business using the Windows firewall aswell . Do I really need both? could I just run with a hardware firewall with my router or should I disable the router firewall and use windows firewall. I have noticed some lag in games and am thinking that running 2 firewalls may be affecting there performance online.

I'd just stick to one Firewall tbh, and the hardware ones tend to be better.

Yea just use the hardware firewall.
If the Vista firewall is anything like the XP one it's useless anyway. (not sure if they improved it but doubt it)

Hi,

I just disabled windows firewall and after each re-boot a message comes up and sais I have no firewall protection. I realise that my router is on etc but the window is annoying is there any way of disabling the alert?. Thanks

Yes there is! Bloody annoying MS! It's in (I think) Control panel --> Security centre --> "Change the way security centre alerts me" on the left.

That's for XP but when I had Vista it was very similar, from there the alert settings can be configured.
